... was an absolute farce! Having sprouted to people that my blood glucose (BG) control was marvelous and I'd went on a 3 mile jog in 30 mins (chuffed as done naught running wise in a while), about 3h later on Wed night I had a low of 2.9. Swiftly crammed a jam and cheese sandwich in to recover, which worked. I woke up yester fine and my BG levels were good at 5.2 before breakfast. Then it all went to pot, 12.2 (pre-lunch), 9.3 (2h post-lunch), 7.0(pre-dinner)... at which point I didn't check post dinner and ate what the frig I wanted! Despite the little exercise I did yester, I came over the calories needed to maintain by a whopping 590cal!! My BG before bed was 13.5. Not good.

BG this morning it was 10.8 and I had taken a bit more insulin after the night time reading to try and bring it down, clearly not enough (but cation is usually best). So I've had a banana for breakfast and it's now down to 7.0. I blame it on the jog but in actual fact it was probably the baked beans I had for breakfast yester morning setting me all askew as I didn't take enough insulin. ANNOYED! Back on the band wagon today... but at least I don't feel hungry (yet) ;)

In summary... Bah to diabetes whilst trying to diet!

😓

Thanks for the link but my diabetes isn't the reversible type, it's not type II. It's secondary to a disease that's basically eating my pancreas slowly, which is why I am diabetic. I don't produce enough insulin because of it and I need minute top ups to control my BG levels.

That sounds really complicated! I hope you able to sort it all out. I think we have to stop thinking in terms of diet and think in terms of changing the way we eat :) But how can you kid a kidder :)

Yeah that was useful. What I'm doing is right in reducing my carb intake but with exercise it' more tricky, hence the hypo of 2.9 after a jog. I don't have the fuel there to burn during exercise. I think on cardio days I'll be taking in a higher carb diet, so the fuel is there, and on the non-cardio days sticking to lower carb foods. I'll get there it's all about adjusting to my own specific needs.

If you don't mind me asking, do you have diabetes bigleg? If you do, how do you work around cardio exercise and BG levels.

Interesting guy and amazing what he's achieved! I'm obviously very dubious about the 'cure' part and after reading Dr Bernstein's own words he has not actually cured his type 1 diabetes he controls it very very well on very minimal insulin. Like me, I take very small doses (less than him actually).

I will however try the low-carb part as it makes a lot of sense. I can't do high-fat, I can't digest fat without medication (due to the other disease), so will try high-protein. Hopefully these tinkering changes will work!

Thanks for links and the insight.

I have cystic fibrosis, high fat is bad for me even though I take enzymes to digest it due to the complications (it's all bowel related so I'm not going into things you can imagine!). I'm pancreatic insufficient in regard to enzyme production, they're produced but trapped and that's what's eaten my Islets of Langerhans! I do eat fat but I have to take enzymes to help me digest it and they're not 100 %, hence I have to take high doses of fat soluble vitamins to make sure I don't become deficient.

Like you I normally have really good control of my blood sugars, but like you I also had a problem yesterday. My levels crashed yesterday evening and I had to go over my calorie allowance to bring it up again which was frustrating . But I have noticed before that hot weather can play havoc with my blood sugars, heaven knows why! My other problem with the hot weather is dehydration because kidney disease means that I have to restrict my fluid intake. Love the hot weathet, love the fact that it makes me want to eat lighter meals, don't like all the extra problems if causes me! Oh well I'm a grown up I can deal with it.

P.S am very, very sceptical about people who claim to have cured type 1 diabetes

Mother Nature came knocking today :/ sodding hormones!

Hmmm read some stuff and seems very wooly. Personal opinion comments and 'I have heard so avoid' aren't good grounds for medical decisions.

I think we sing from a different hymn sheet, and thats fine, I'm not going to be cured of either by alterations to buy diet but I will slow damage and last longer than I would do otherwise.

Thanks for the thought on low-carb, I am going to give it a try but as I said with a great amount of tinkering,
