Reduced calories and excema flare up.

Since reducing my calories my excema has flared up. Has this happened to anyone else? I'm sticking to roughly 1400 calories per day and that has been the only change in my lifestyle. Doctor doesn't know why it has flared up....he says I'm the best judge of my excema. Now on steroid cream and lots of emollients. It's on my face/eyelids and arms and is driving me to distraction with the itching and burning. I am losing weight steadily though. 😕

is there something you have introduced into your eating plan that might be causing it? have you upped your intake of tomatoes or tomato based things? my daughter's excema flares up if she has tomatoes, then takes ages to clear up, so sometimes you wonder what the trigger food was? also as you probably know worrying about things can cause flare ups, also hormonal stuff.

Thanks.....I hadn't thought about tomatoes being a trigger but I have increased consumption as part of snacking. Will leave off and see what happens. Thanks for tip.

Everything I normally do, just a lot less portions. I've increased my fruit especially berries likes strawberries, raspberries blueberries and am eating more tomatoes. 😕

I have to agree with tomatoes being a possible cause, I can eat them but getting tomatoes or anything with tomatoes on my skin makes it flare up like crazy. Although it seems to be different for everyone, another thing I have found is a change of diet and lifestyle makes a big difference. I have had it flare when I've started exercising before and also when I've been eating junk food. For me I think there has to be just the right types of fats in my diet, which makes sense when you consider where fats go (often into your skin). Also I've had it bad around the eyes when I was sweating with a physical job, I wasn't using steroid cream as it can thin the skin and you really don't want that happening to your eyelids, a weak hydrocortisone (think I spelled that right) cream worked better for me on my face.

I've been exercising and cut down on fat and increased fruit intake so it could be a combination of things. The 0.5% hydrocortisone made no difference to my facial excema and I had to use the betnovate which the gp grudgingly accepted. If this doesnt wotk then i might try to get hold of the cream which is supposed to suppress the immune system. Think its called protopic or tacrylimus?

Thanks for the information. Hadn't realised fruit could have this effect. I'm going to have to keep a bit of a food diary to keep an eye on possible triggers. I
