I am getting married abroad in oct 2016 and have 7 stone to loose! it feels like a real mission. I have been for a walk this morning for an hour with the docs and I have 4 months off so going to concentrate on this weight loss. Is 5 stone in 4 month too much to loose? around 4 pound a week?

It seems like a hig number to get week on week, you could lose more in the first few weeks but then it may slow down - I'm not saying that this or that will happen as we're all different and lose weight at different rates.

How many calories a day are you going to have?

Hey, yeah I think that might be high hopes. Im gonna stick to around 1000 cals a day.

I'm on Day 1 of Week 1, and I've decided to go with healthy eating this week, see how I get on, and then eat the same next week but see how many calories I'm eating, and then come up with some kind of calorie number so that i lose 1-2lb a week.

I have around 10 stone to lose but I'm not setting myself a target date as I know only too well that life has a habit of throwing a spanner in the works.

I think it is best to set yourself small obtainable targets then you won't get disheartened.

Take a look at the NHS 12 week plan, which will help you eat sensibly. The BMI calculator will tell you the most suitable amount of calories for you to consume daily.

The people on this site will give you lots of support and encouragement. Good luck.

It does seem a rather tall order and you should guard against setting yourself up to fail. It may be better to take things more slowly as you have over a year to get to the size you want. Set yourself small targets and it will be much easier to manage. Getting married is such a wonderful incentive and you've started getting yourself organised nice and early, take a look at the NHS 12 week plan it's a very good place to start a healthy lifestyle. Best wishes.

Try not to think about big weekly weight loss.look at 12 week plan and focus on just getting used to eating more healthy, smaller portions and moving a bit more , weigh self once a week at same time and see the results. Do not get dis hearted this is a journey we are all on and we all get stuck. There is some great inspirational posts on here and loads of support. Good luck on your journey 😇

Careful. Don't eat too little or your body will just store all the energy from everything you eat. Try putting your details into the nhs diet calculator. It will calculate your bmi and suggest how many calories to consume. You can always eat slightly less than what it says but make sure it's from a good range of foods. If you're getting married next year, you've got plenty of time. Just go one week at a time and keep mixing your exercise routine: walking, cycling, swimming etc. it helps. Good luck x

Have a look at the kinds of food you are eating as well as the calories. Cutting out things like sugar and refined carbs, like white bread and sugary breakfast cereals, can be a big help to losing weight. If you are planning to make big changes to what you eat, don't go too fast but let your body get used to it, for example if you are increasing the amount of vegetables you eat.

If you can cook most of your meals from scratch you will probably be able to make healthy choices more easily. Check the labels on everything you buy to make sure they are not full of sugar, it crops up in unexpected places.

Don't eat too few calories or you will just end up hungry and probably wanting to binge.

Having a wedding to look forward to is lovely. Good luck with your weight loss.

I'm losing weight by using a slimming club s/w as im the kind of person who needs support. if you start to loose motivation and you are in England you can get a referral to a slimming club by seeing your doctor. One thing i can tell you is don't look at the bigger picture, just concentrate on a weekly goal, i set myself two pound a week ...Don't starve yourself you will never loose weight that way....If you can do a little exercise all the better... Drink water, sometimes you think your hungry and in fact your thirsty.. Alcohol especially wine is a big no ..its best to have shot of a spirit , my fave tipple is Brandy ( pub measure ) with a dash of orange... Buy a low cal spray to fry with so you still feel human, I still have my full English just without the fat .... You can still have chips by making them yourself spray with your low cal spray and putting them in the oven for about 45 mins or until brown. ..If you have a bad day don't beat yourself up tomorrow is another day... iv lost one and a half stone in seventeen weeks , Iv got some way to go but im loosing every week and feel motivated and Im never hungry which is the key . ..Four pound a week is achievable I lost four pound a few weeks ago but im happy plodding along at my own pace ... Good luck and have a wonderful wedding day x

1000 calories a day is too little, you will find it hard to sustain and put your body into starvation mode so will start storing energy as fat. You need a minimum of 1200.

I did 1600 as this kept me from being hungry and falling of the wagon. As well as exercising 3-4 times a week I lost 7 stone in 12 months. I found a personal trainer invaluable as made me understand how body works and motivated me to exercise, something I hadn't done in years.

Good luck it is achievable but don't starve yourself you need to change your lifestyle for something you can sustain

With you on this one, EM. 7 stone - how did it happen? :(

It never matters how it happend. Its little by little before you realize how much you need to lose. I think your 1000 calories is too low. You will platau at some point and not lose weight and have no calories to drop down again. Your body will go into starvation mode and stop losing weight. Start off as high as you can to lose 1 or 2 pounds. When those stop drop the calories again. You could try the 5:2 diet and see if that works but I have no idea if it does. It tricks the body into thinking it has a metabolism for the 2 fasting days. I just use the myfitnesspal app to measure my food and exercise. It is helping me alot because I see what I eat and when I exercise and when I need to do more.
