Hi, My name is Julie , I am spending a bit of time today working out weekly diet on the 5 2 diet and also an exercise plan ,starting from tomorrow ! . I joined the gym a few months ago and have been going 2 maybe 3 times a week. I realise that exercise and diet go hand in hand . Any tips anyone could give would be much appreciated ,especially exercising I can do at home on the fasting days , sit ups etc.

Hi Julie
I lost three stone in six months on the 5:2 Diet, going from an unhealthy BMI of 26 to just under 20. I've kept it off since April 2013.
I always run on my fasting days, run to the cinema two miles away, watch a film, run home again. I didn't start running until I was 63 and I'd hated running at school but I used the NHS Couch to 5k podcasts nhs.uk/Livewell/c25k/Pages/... which were brilliant.
If you have any questions at all about the diet, please do ask.
I'm about to give the 5:2 diet a go after everything else has failed.
I've also been back at the gym since March focusing on strength training to support a weakened spine and so far its been brilliant.
Before I had the courage to get back to the gym I developed my own workout routine in small doses. Every time I put the kettle on (I drink a LOT of tea) I would do a set of bodyweight squats, wall push ups, lunges or arm work with my small dumbbell set. Its really easy to find body weight resistance exercises you can do at home in the kitchen or the living room.
Personally I avoid crunches as I think that there are far better and safer ways to develop abdominal strength (squat, plank, push ups) and crunches hurt my neck. I had a series of pilates and yoga moves from my physio to do as well such as glute bridge, clams and spine mobilising stretches.
If I'm feeling like it I can also fire up the Wii and do a little raised step work while I watch a half hour programme on tv as well or just take a walk or jog round my local area.
Best of luck
