My last attempt to lose weight

I have been overweight for years, tried different diets which worked for a few weeks and then I gave up. It was my birthday on Tuesday so for the first time ever I decided not to have a birthday cake and asked friends and family not to buy me anything edible. My birthday present to me was to change my eating habits and count calories instead of going on a faddy diet. I am determined not to be overweight on my next birthday.

Good Morning and well done for taking the first step to a new you. Everyone has their own baseline and sounds very much as though you have reached yours. Weight loss is something you have to want to do and you have to do it for yourself. Like you I have tried so many different diets over the years, even the very extreme ones like Lighterlife but have found counting calories not only the easiest diet but the most successful too so I hope you find it to be the case also. Thank you for your message. I am so fed up being tired all the time. I always dread the summer as I am not comfortable bearing any skin. I woke up on my birthday to a beautiful sunny morning and dread set in about what I was going to wear.

Welcome, I hope you find what you need in this community. Start by dowloading an app on your phone to keep track of calories (Fat Secret, My Fitness Pal...), it's a great aid! Good luck!

Good for you - this is the start of the new you :-) You will get lots of support on here so you're in the right place. It's good to have a goal for your next birthday but make sure that you have mini-goals along the way so that you can celebrate successes and progress towards your overall goal. Every positive change to your eating and exercise habits will take you closer to where you want to be :-) Good luck!

Thanks. I am going on holiday 18 weeks today so I am hoping to see some difference by then. I should be able to lose 1.5 stone if I stick to my calorie intake and also up the exercise.
