Well i have survived two weeks , asked hubby to hide the scales to stop myself weighing daily. Weigh day this morning and drum roll please..... im 12.7llbs , starting weight 13.2llbs. Absolutely over the mood, i have stuck religiously to the 500 cal days , buying slim rice, pasta to bulk up the meals .

feeling motivated on normal days to eat healthly , things i noticed , week one feeling very tired on restricted days, could hardly keep eyes open but wasnt sleeping through the night. Week two decided to top up energy levels with B6 abd B12, added some other vitamins. Work was really busy limped home on friday but today weight makes me feel postive. Week 3 having two restricted together as im out most of the week, so lets see what the scales say next saturday.

Good for you - 5:2 is brilliant! I'll sum it up below for anyone who's wondering:

I lost the three stone I needed to in six months on the 5:2 Diet after watching Michael Mosley's excellent Horizon programme in 2012, "Eat, Fast and Live Longer" tinyurl.com/qzgo7tq or tinyurl.com/a8ppjl7 and went from a size 16 to a size 10 by eating 500 calories two non-consecutive days a week. I've been maintaining my weight loss since April 2013 by just fasting one day a week - in the past I piled the weight back on as soon as I finished 'dieting'. I'd very much recommend you read Kate Harrison's book, "The 5:2 Diet" (tinyurl.com/qe6mz4u) - it really does work and it will save you a fortune (towards your smaller clothes!).

I'd also recommend a free app for your phone called MyFitnessPal. Counting calories is very important so you can see how much you're eating and therefore eat mindfully rather than mindlessly. There are excellent videos in the Help section on the app that show you how it works - there's even a barcode reader to scan in branded foods.

It's important you don't eat more than your TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure) on non-fasting days. You can work that out here thefastdiet.co.uk/how-many-.... If yours works out at more than 2000 then aim at 2000 on non-fasting days.

Here I am in the Daily Mail on 7th January tinyurl.com/m7rqecq. The other two ladies’ stories are inspiring!

Here Michael Mosley answers many questions on it dailymail.co.uk/health/arti...

I watched the Horizon episode you refer to and it was inspiring as well as compelling. What you have provided for people in your reply here is priceless and in some cases it could be life saving. Thank you. And congratulations on a major life achievement.

Hi Hackney1

Well done on sticking with the fast days and your weight loss :-)

I had a slice of lovely home made lemon cheese cake yesterday as a treat, but I'll need to get back to making up for it with my fast day tomorrow.

As I've got used to this diet, I'm not getting affected much with tiredness on my fast days. Hopefully this will also improve for you in future.

Good luck!

Terrific. You are very good. I can only get myself to occasionally do the 2 days in a week of the 500 cals.

I always weighed myself once a week, the morning after my second fast (post-wee, pre-tea) and I plotted the change on MyFitnessPal. Very occasionally I stayed the same but I persevered, and six months later I was three stone lighter!
