I discovered I enjoy Cycling.

I never exercised until I got my dog but I still did not lose weight. I walk too slow apparently. I do not enjoy running as I am Asthmatic but cycling has saved me and over 12 weeks of 1400 calories or less per day and regular cycling I achieved my goal of losing 1 1/2 stone. I now have to keep it off and what with the winter approaching there is less light to cycle so I only do it on my days off but I have found that the calorie counting has changed the way I eat and now I cook more healthily and eat less calories than before so it does work if you persevere. I have gone from 36" waist to a 30" waist and I am very pleased as I never thought my waist would change. I am off to get a new pair of jeans as mine are all too big now. Persevere and it will pay off in the end. :)

Cycling is great to help start weight loss because it is not as hard as running and it helps tone muscles

Well done. Enjoy buying new jeans. Have you considered a static excercise bike. Then you can enjoy cycling regardless of the weather. I have one and went from a size 18 jean to a 10 size jean ( uk ) and nice toned legs for the first time in a very long time. I'm 61 and can wear skinny jeans now.

Now wjen I feel the urge to buy that big cream cake in the bakers window. I buy something to wear instead, lol,

Well done to you too. I still have the odd cake or too on my days off only. I was going to get an exercise bike too but then my daughter gave me her old cross trainer but I do not like it so I think I may still invest in the exercise bike after all. Which one did you buy and would you recommend it?

Hi, I bought the Davina excercise bike from Argos as it was within my budget and had the various attributes I was looking for, eg electronic feature display, and it had good customer reviews as well, which was a priority.....:)

I had a static excercise bike for ages, it was really useful. I kept it in a spare room which also had a TV in it. I used it whenever I wanted to watch a soap. It was a great way of making me excercise while I'd usually be doing nothing.

Well Done on finding that you enjoy cycling. I am walking at the moment but I am thinking of starting to cycle as I used to cycle in my 20´s and really enjoyed it. Keep up the good work and keep enjoying the exercise on your bike.

Walking is a great exercise too but cycling is an aerobic exercise and it seems to speed up weight loss and I am sure it is how my waist shrunk down. Keep up the walking but do try to do some cycling when possible as I am sure you will enjoy it. I had not ridden for a good few years too but you soon get used to it all over again. Good luck and I hope you succeed too.

Thank you for your comments. I am hoping to get out on my bike this week. Your message is very much appreciated and I will post my progress each week to hopefully help other slimmers.

I'd suggest looking at a turbo trainer , not as drastic as it sounds, honest. You fix your own bike to it. Don't let winter put you off tho... Some decent cycling gloves. A little black running/cycling cap under your helmet! A high viz cycling coat and bobs your uncle you'll soon warm up! Reasonable lights and you're off

In January I was walking my dog and fell over my shoe lace breaking my shoulder so was off work 3 months and unable to exercise much or drive. I certainly could not walk my dog or ride my bike so I have managed to put on half a stone which is annoying. I did buy a static exercise bike and although it was good at first I do not find I get the inclination to use it now and I think it is because I have to do Physio exercises 3 times daily which is hard enough so I just don't want to get on the bike. I am now back at work so I am improving and hope to get the mindset to get on that bike and improve my shape as my waist is now 32" an increase of 2" and I can feel the difference. I hope that I can get back to where I was before this happened but I know a lot of effort is required so the salads are back on the menu and that is a good start!

Brilliant, I love cycling too, struggle to find the time but it is definitely addictive. Hoping to bike to work tomorrow if weather forecast stays decent...
