I read somewhere here that you should write your self little notes every time you succeed e.g. eat sensibly at a social event; resist cravings - this matches advice I was given at a 'Beat Depression' course - then on those down days, you can remind yourself that you did it once, and have been in a better place mentally - that time WILL come round again. GPs don't always understand depression, but I found being referred to a local mental health clinic opened up some really good things for me - a couple of courses run by OTs there were what really have had long-term benefits.

Depression sucks. The good news is that some of the things that help you blow the cobwebs away and conquer that black dog are actually good for your diet and weight loss. When I'm feel I'm getting into a lowI try and escape the house and my tthoughts and go for a walk. It stops me binge/comfort eating because I'm feeling crappy and I think the world won't miss me.

I did that Wednesday when a bunch of stuff at work got to me. It cleared my head and I could put things in perspective and I got a real boost from it because I felt like I'd done something positive by getting some exercise. You get serotonin boost from exercising so it tends to lift your mood.

Loosing weight is hard work but worth while and you have to tell yourself that it's okay to not get it right all the time and that one slip up does not mean all out failure. That was my biggest hang up and still is. But I think people who have depression are possibly one of the strongest kinds of people I know. We have a natural ability to somehow pick ourselves up and carry on no matter what happens, even if it doesn't feel like we want to at the time.

I've lost 5st since January and I still can't quite believe that I've done it. I have a little devil on my back that keeps saying that it's not as good as I think it is and that somehow I've been tricked. Which is stupid but that's depression for you. I'm not going to let him beat me though. 5 dress sizes smaller and a new found energy for life tells me I did the right thing.

Hats off to you, you're doing so well already. Don't let the demons beat you. Feel free to message me if you want.
