Do it for yourself not for anyone else you will fail. I have just started too and my 1st weigh in is tomorrow. This site is good for support. I know I can do it but usually fail cos i have no support network. So like you I have a lot to lose so lets get started

I suggest following the advice on this link, plan your meals, use smaller plates & don't get too hungry.

Good luck

Hi Zana020114. You need to bottle the excitement you have today and look back at it if you ever feel low or have the temptation to blow your new healthy eating plan! Keep to the plan and don't get hungry. Good luck!

Hi Zana- welcome to the site. I'm two weeks in and have lost 5lbs so far. Here are my top tips:

don't change your normal diet too much- try to fit what you normally eat into your calorie intake, this usually means eating smaller portions, but add the healthy low calorie/high fibre foods.

Count your calories and read the labels- this has been the single most effective thing for me- try and add up the calories meal by meal, then you will learn how to spread them out during the day. Write it down!

Use the scales to weigh portions, even small ones, then you will get an idea of how much you can have. leave the scales on the worktop so they are easy to use- if you don't have any then they are cheap in your local supermarket.

Keep logging in to this site- its great for advice and support, which we all need and good luck!

Yes to all the above and finally...................keep occupied, don't get bored otherwise you'll turn to food! Well done and good luck.

If you have a smartphone I really recommend this app called MyFitnessPal. It makes counting calories really easy (it has a large database of foods you can search and add to your 'diary' in the app). You can even scan bar-codes on products and it will add the calories and nutrition info to your diary automatically for you! It also lets you set and track weight loss goals, record weight and waist (and other) measurements, and track your exercise. It's completely free! They also have a website which I believe you can still use even if you don't have a smartphone.
