Why don't you all go healthy? Kids don't need biscuits or crisps. Change them for rice cakes and fruit bars, yoghurts, nuts & raisins. Just let them have treats on weekends. Its almost impossible to start a diet with temptations all around you. If they want chocolate or biscuits walk with them to the shop and buy single packs. When you stop eating them you will stop craving them, if you really can't stand the craving go for a long walk to buy the treat. I think the first step is to get that stuff out of the house. Maybe try a low GI diet? As its gentle and healthy and we should all be getting the rubbish out of our kitchens! Good luck x

2muchmunchin offers some great advice, I learnt bad eating habits from my parents and grandparents, there was a coffee break at 10am and 2pm regardless of who was looking after me and my sister, at grandmas there was a biscuit and with my parents there was a chocolate bar. Having been on this schedule for years when I went to uni then got a job this bad habit continued, now i'm just over 17 stone and that's after losing 15lbs. I have stopped that habit and now chocolate is a treat for when i'm watching a film on a rainy day (after I've used the exercise bike at home).

If you change your eating habits as a family the temptation won't be around, if you walk to the shop to buy a treat then make the walk a long one and you will probably burn off the calories from the treat. I've changed my eating habits gradually, having tried various diets where I was very strict with myself and lost unsustainable amounts of weight in the first 2 months of it I would then binge on all of the stuff I was missing and put all of the weight back on and then some, now I still have the bad stuff but a lot less, as I'm still having it I don't miss it which makes eating healthier a lot easier, I'm also finding that the less I have the less I crave it so I'm hoping to cut it out eventually. As i've been cutting it out I am feeling a lot better, i'm more motivated and actually enjoy the exercise now whereas at the start it was a bit of a chore. I'm sleeping better and am basically just a lot happier, and this is just the start I can't imagine how much better i'm going to feel once i've lost more weight :)

Good luck with making changes, just keep trying until you find something that works for you, you will get there :) xx

You must leave the eating to your children and concentrate on more important things such as making money.

I understand what you're saying cos I have a little girl who loves sugar! So I do treat her with crisps sometimes and the odd choc now and then but I do concentrate on myself healthy eating then the rest will follow. As result my hubby has lost weight and my daughter is slimming down too and eating healthily. Try to think of other sweet treats they can have, like rice cakes, fruit (my daughter loves yoghurts and tinned peaches). Snack fruit like sultanas, dried fruit. A small sweet like small amount of chocolate. Biscuits are banned in our house. Biscuits and crisps are the worst for fat and sugar. I do chopped veg with dips. My daughter loves it. Good luck... One step at a time...

My eldest daughter is so fussy with food she loves her fruit and veg which is good but is fussy with everything else if it looks funny or smells funny she won't even bother trying it. But I'll give it a go and see how it goes. X

Today I did wraps. My three year old and I sat on the floor in living room got a bowl of salad, made a yogurt dip with mint sauce and chicken. Just showed her to put everything in the wrap and dip and eat. She loved it and thought is was fun. Indoor picnic is what I call it. My daughter is so willing to taste and try new things so all that helps. Good luck. x

I can totally relate to you. I am a single mum with 2 children (14 and 10) and work part time. My children, especially the teen, are BIG eaters and love biscuits etc. I have cut them down significantly, I don't buy as many as I did, the same with crisps. But they are children and I don't believe in denying them (or myself actually!) anything. Not allowing children to have any bad foods at all will, in my opinion, cause just as much of a problem as letting them have too much. I guess the key is moderation, for all of us.

Have you thought that by giving in to your children you are teaching them what you say your parents taught you? You can help them and you by not having biscuits etc in the week and making it a Saturday night treat. Something to bare in mind is you need to work 3500 calories to loose 1 pound. That helped me put things in perpestive.

All the best
