Find a long term plan that works for you start at the nhs 12 week plan, do you do any exercise? Even walking will help. Count your calories for a week and see how much you are really eating.......

Taking it one step at a time and being patient is the best way. My tips are to plan all your meals, use smaller plates & don't get too hungry.Good luck

Personally to me for the good start and help I needed I have been using Herbalife products, when I think I can move on I have learnt through advice about my portion sizes so I can keep the weight lose off forever

I have to totally agree with Prin and Windswept on this one. I've also found weighing my portions before cooking has helped me too - so far I've lost 16lbs in 13 weeks.

Hello I have 3.5 stone to lose and I started 4 weeks ago with C25k and have been using myfitnesspal.com. I have never, ever counted calories and it took me a couple of weeks to get into but I have lost 8lb by doing this and MFP does all the hard work for you. I never realised how many calories I was consuming with a little mouthful here and there or a piece of cheese broken off the block each time I went to the fridge!!!! Give it a look over, it may not be for you but I have trained myself to stop snacking with this on unhealthy bits and pieces as I do not want to waste calories on bits I do not need for a quick fix. I feel fuller and not hungry during the day.

Good luck

Best regards

Hej Lauz83! I agree with Josie-Jo on using the myfitnesspal.com. I feel it gives us more control over what we put in our bodies. I feel more in control over my life with regards to food and that's a good feeling. Breakfast is the easiest meal for me. During the week I start with half a cup to 3/4 of a cup of uncooked oatmeal which I then cook. To that I add 1/4 cup frozen blueberries, half or whole banana depending on the size along with 1/2 cup of 1.5% milk. I sometimes have half a slice or whole of homemade whole wheat toast depending on how hungry I am and always drink a full glass of water. I was eating a hardboiled egg with that as well but after someone commented that that was a lot of calories for breakfast I took the egg away and found I don't miss it and do not feel hungry. I would say start with your breakfast, plan what you will have and make it something that will not only be good for you, but help you stay full till lunchtime. My advice is to dare to try new & healthy ways to live your life and you'll be pleasantly surprised. :-D (((HUGS)))

Yep I'm with the above two - myfitnesspal. I've lost 36lbs in 15 weeks by using the on-line diary and linking it with Fitbit. I just love to walk and love gadgets. I find it amazing how many calories there are in fruit. Being diabetic I don't have much fruit but I was shocked at the amount of calories. It's not until you start keeping a diary you realise how many calories you are eating. Just take it a day at a time and listen to your body. Increasing your exercise by walking three times a walk (or more if able), will help increase your weight loss. Good luck on your journey.

Sadly I'm in the same position as you and so have five stone to lose. I am on week 2 of the NHS 12 week plan and have found that counting calories can help enormously because it makes you aware of portions and also good and not so great choices. I have lost 4lb which has been easy to do, but have lost 17" of fat! I can now get into my size 14 jeans which have been hanging in my wardrobe for years! Sadly I don't have an up to date phone so I use good old fashion pen and paper and keep a note of all of what I eat on the fridge.. and weighing scales nearby which I just chuck in what I am eating and then count the calories later on, for what I can eat for later on that day. To see how many calories your body needs go onto the 12 week plan and calculate your BMI... I chose the lower rate of calories to keep to as I can't exercise very long due to my disabilities but on an off day ( and there will be some) I have extra calories to play with to reach the upper limit. Good luck whatever you choose to do and if you want to keep in touch for support then we can keep each other motivated. :D x

I started by joining the gym and incorporating more fruits and vegetables in my diet. Also, discovering and making meals that will keep me fuller for longer while having all the nutrients that I need. I have also found this site and my fitness pal very useful. In addition to that, I have just started the 5:2 diet and this is my second week. The most important thing is to have realistic goals. As long as you are not gaining weight and improving your lifestyle everyday, you will be fine...All the best!
