I am the weight loss grinch.

I'm not in a good mood this week. I'm finding it really difficult to keep myself going with the whole weight loss regime.  Don't get me wrong I want to do it and I've forced myself this last few days to keep going and not fall off the wagon but boy has it been difficult.

I think the crux of it is that I am angry at the fact that I've only lost 1lb (1.4lb to be exact). I should be happy with that. A loss is a loss afterall and I've been trying to look at the silver lining that it's not a gain and that eventually everyone reaches a plateaux. However it's really hard to think that way when you've worked you're butt off the whole week and into the start of the next week trying to get more exercise into your regime. I wouldn't mind if I saw some inch loss or a build up of muscle but I can't see any change.

It doesn't help of course that my scales did a dying fly on me and I had to go buy new ones. Annoyingly changing the battery had no affect. Of course I have no idea if I've actually lost 1lb or if that's just the difference in calibration between the two scales. I'm holding onto the fact that the wii fit thinks I've lost 2lbs and it was generally agreeing with the weight loss before even if it said I was lighter than the bathroom scales (the difference has always stayed the same.)

For every pound of fat you put on, your body has to make an extra 7 miles of blood vessels, which is harder work for your heart to pump through. So losing just 1lb of fat may not seem like much on the outside, but the benefits on the inside are tangible. Keep going! If you need motivation, see my website here: senseofnutrition.co.uk/

1lb is great!! trust me, after being on this healthy eating track for about 4 months now, after reaching a plateau, then suddenly seeing a 1lb drop, it's really great!! it doesn't feel like much, but add another 1lb next week, and that makes 2.. etc etc, trust me, it's an adjustment to wait and see the difference every week, but ultimately it adds up.. and the best thing is, once you get the hang of it, and have lost a bit.. a small break in healthy eating doesn't result in it all flying back on overnight (tried and tested ;) )

Keep it up, you're doing well!

Just think if you lost 'just' 1 lb a week for a year that's 52 pounds which is over 3 1/2 stone - how HUGE is that weight loss?! Think how far away you'd be from your target after loosing all that :)

Changing scales is always a downer because they're always different - some round up, others give grams etc etc so they're always going to be different. I know it's really hard (having been struggling myself for the last week or so boy do I know!) but you will get the motivation back and it's really not worth giving in because you'll just feel like cr*p (both physically and emotionally) after you've eaten things that aren't good for you.

Why don't you try mixing up your exercise a little bit? Some people find that if they do a lot of cardio and they switch to weight based training for a couple of weeks it really gets their weight loss moving because you start to use different muscle groups; plus you build muscle which helps burn more fuel so helps you loose fat :)

Also, if you're anything like me you might tend to stick to the same foods so it might be worth adding a little bit of variety to that too.

Really wish you the best of luck x

Interestingly I have 3st 12lbs left to go. I've already lost 2st 7lbs. It feels a long way to go but so does where I started from. I'm feeling more motivated today.

Try just eating up to 500 calories on two non-consecutive days a week.

Every loss is a good loss dear. Don't give up, you're doing well and it is good that you have come on here as you will get a lot of support and good kicks up the behind too ( I have the bruises to prove it, lol). Seriously though, please try not to look at the negative in this situation. You are aiming for a healthy living lifestyle - just remember the Hare and the Tortoise - slow and steady wins the race. :)

Can fully understand your feelings and I share them - I'm a very slow loser and the only time I've lost a substantial amount of weight recently was while on a very strict low fat diet waiting for a gall bladder op. I lost about 20lbs in 7 months but I wasn't weighing myself because I wasn't trying to lose weight - if I had been I would have given up because it's much less that 1lb a week!

Know exactly what you mean and also exactly how you feel.

I haven't lost anything in 2 weeks having gained 2 pounds the week before - stable is not what I want to hear because I don't want to be stable I want to loose even if it is only 1 lb - any loss will boost my confidence and help me stick to my diet and health eating plan.

My measurements are exactly the same as they were and it is truly disheartening when I work so hard every day to keep well within the guidelines of the amount that I should be eating and I walk as much as I physically can in the time I have when I am not either working or doing things at home and even the dogs are getting a longer walk now because the daylight lasts that bit longer.

It is truly no fun trying to lose weight and the fact that I feel enormous and bloated and FAT does not change no matter how much people say nice things because how I see myself is what matters and I just see a lump that is frumpy, fat and ugly.

If it does get better the only thing I want to know is when because at the moment all I want to do is eat because I am hungry and why am I bothering with this when it obviously isn't working and making me into a right grumpy grouch.

For some people feeling bloated may mean that they are having a problem digesting wheat. Have a look for "Wheat Belly".

This link has some other ideas on losing weight, which might be useful.

Don't give up, perhaps try a different approach.

Thanks for all the advice and motivation words. I feeling much better today. I stepped on the scales and I've already lost a 1lb this week which is good. I the ego boost to do a 30 minute/ 2mile leslie sansone power walk.

I have to keep reminding myself that I'm in it for the long haul. I've already lost 2st 7lbs but still have 3st 12lbs to go. I've got loads of motivational messages on my phone set to go off every so many weeks to remind me of my goals. When I get to 3st 2.5lbs I'll be half way there.
