Sometimes you lose inches when you don't lose weight and sometimes vice versa.

If you are exercising then your muscles will be toning which can account for the inch loss.

Eventually too you will lose fat and gain muscle, although this takes time - how long depends on the type of exercise, and since 1kg of muscle is more compact than 1kg of fat your body shape will change while your weight stays the same

thank you for your reply....I think I need to put the scales away for now and concentrate on my exercising. :-)

Yes this is quite normal, especially after starting a new exercise regime. For whatever reason, I have also found I don't tend to lose much weight the first few weeks when I start something new. I have guessed it might be due to muscles holding on to water as they repair? But I don't really know. Just wanted to let you know you are not alone in having this happen!

To look at it in a positive way - would you rather be 2lb lighter but measurements don't change, or be same weight but smaller measures. I know which I would pick :) Sometimes the scale is not that helpful. Keep up the good work as it is obviously having the desired effects.

your story is promising! I lost 9lb in very little time and measurements got smaller slightly then lost no weight and was massively put off, now I'm eating jellybeans at nearly 10pm! I will use you for inspiration!

Hi miss usgb,

I'd pretty much agree with Renka above.

The issue really is the "is this normal" question. I'd suggest you focus on what's happening for you. Each person and each person's weight loss journey is individual.

By that I mean - assuming you to be currently overweight - if you've stopped gaining weight, started losing weight at a sensible and safe rate and if you're still getting in the full range of nutrients in your diet, then you're going in the right direction.

Good luck with your weight loss efforts.

the app I am using says I should be having around 1900 but on here it said 1500...I reckon as long as I don't go over the 1900 then I am fine. My gym instructor said no carbs after 3pm and plenty of protein and veggies...I haven't really felt hungry and I have been drinking plenty of water...so fingers crossed I will lose the excess weight gained the last few years. :-)
