Emotional eating and stress

I go to a small weight loss group at a local church and in January I lost 4 1/2 pounds but I am ruining it by comfort eating, the cause is stress because .of my husbands bipolar and BPD. It is all gettimg a bit too much.

Hi Elaine

Sorry to hear life is so difficult at the moment. Is there anyone you can talk to, to give you some support, perhaps at the church? I don't know if there are any support groups that might be a help to you, would your doctor or mental health nurse be able to advise you?

Perhaps don't worry about losing weight at the moment, just concentrate on getting as much good nutrition as you can to help you combat the stress.

Hi

I use an app called my diet coach which has a panic button you then commit not to eat the food and set a timer. I find it a great way to stop me heading for the biscuits or the fridge. Good luck.

Hi Elaine, is there a family / carer's support group that you can access? Quite often they are linked in with the local community MH team. If not then most of the national support organisations have a carer's section - Mind, Rethink, SANE or Carers UK.

Perhaps once you feel more supported, you will be more able to give weight loss a go, otherwise it becomes one more thing to beat yourself up about.
