I use a book called pocket calorie counter by Carolyn Humphries. Got it from Amazon. It has most food in it I have ever heard of & a lot more I haven't but is helpful as it does things in portion amounts rather than by weight. So for soup - all types you can imagine, both canned & home made- it gives calories for 2 ladles.

I'd definitely recommend MyFitnessPal. Counting calories is very important so you can see how much you're eating and therefore eat mindfully rather than mindlessly. There are excellent videos in the Help section on the app that show you how it works - there's even a barcode reader to scan in branded foods.

I use My Fitness Pal .... myfitnesspal.com .....it has a huge database so you can easily keep your food diary -which is part of the app and you can keep a daily track, not only of calories but carbs/protein/fats etc. you can work out your daily calorie requirement, keep track of your weight loss and measurements and also record your exercise so you know how many 'extra' calories you have.
