there's a great cookbook called 'what to cook and how to cook it' which is for an absolute beginner cook and most of the meals are just normal healthy meals so you can just pick and choose, i highly recommend it! bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/cat... - some of the recipes might be a bit advanced but they all look really yummy. bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/col... - some quick ones for lunch. realsimple.com/food-recipes... - really nice and yummy and simple. eatingwell.com/nutrition_he... - extensive list of healthy recipes. hope this helped!!!

Glad I've helped! The author is Jane Hornby, go onto amazon.co.uk, type in 'what to cook and how to cook it by jane hornby' and it pops up - don't click on the 'fresh and easy' one, that's a newer more advanced version, click on the one that just says 'what to cook and how to cook it', it has drawings of a chicken, a fish, some cooking utensils etc on it, and it costs £16.47. Also try nhs.uk/change4life/Pages/me... - the meals are really simple and tasty and easily keep you under 1,400 calories a day :)

Also, don't forget. Most people think they can't cook tend to be frightened to try. All meals are, are a protein, a carbohydrate and some vegetables. Nothing is going to blow up and you won't kill anyone. Make sure your meat is cooked through. It may taste horrendous but you'll learn from that. The main thing is to just try. I consider myself a good cook but there are times when I serve my hubby the worst meals. That one just didn't work, move on. Chay.

Download the change for life app if you have an iPhone if not go to the website. I've gone from 12.8 to 10 so far, you get to eat so much food for 1400 calories it's actually really surprising. Plus all the recepies are so simple. :) (not to miss out the fact my weekly shopping bill has lost 10 to 20 pounds its self! Saving money and losing weight what's not to love!)

cooking is about confidence and timings... and if you follow things correctly then you will build the confidence and know what is and isnt good for you then you can experiement with more :)

I'm a big believer in the idea that if you know how to cook eggs, everything else is easy. If you can boil and egg without it over cooking, you can poach fish; if you can fry an egg without turning it to rubber, you can stirfry; if you can cook the sort of scrambled eggs that splat instead of bouncing when dropped, you'll have no problem with sauces. That's pretty much all the basics covered. Go buy a box of eggs and see if you're better than you think!

You could try the library and see if they have any weight watchers books or Hairy biker to try them before buying, or the monthly mag for Rosemary Colney or weight watchers that's if you want to pay, but Hairy bikers and weight watchers recpies are really tasty and filling meals. Good luck hope you find something you want to cook and is nice to eat, at times I struggle as their is only me to cook for but I do store basic protein and veg in my freezer to make meals a little easier.

I have the calorie bible from a link on this website. However I am just starting and crashing every day. Got the airy bikers books and yes the recipes are excellent. The book basically for me says that if you chop 500 calories off each day you will lose 1-2lb a week. I have been attempting a 1400 calorie plan. Looks good but by the evening when I have been good all day....I go and blow it again...

It's not just about the calories, the type of food is very important. If you limit your carbs/sugar, but make sure you have plenty of good protein and veg, with some natural fat like butter, you stand a better chance of not feeling hungry and not crashing.
