I'm nearly 21 and have been gaining weight for the last 3 years, half hearted I've tried diet after diet and surprise they haven't worked. So now sick of my fave clothes no longer fitting I'm changing my eating habits for good!! Any tips/advice would be gratefully received! :)

Hi Sweetooth25,

Lots of good and free advice on the NHS Choices live well lose weight pages and lots on these blogs too which are mainly written by people who are actually on weight loss journeys themselves.

There's also a BMI calculator there and a free 12 week plan and advice about nutrition.

In my opinion, the key to losing weight is to recognise just what, how much and how often you eat and what it is about those eating habits that have made you overweight.

And it does take being brutally honest with yourself about what you really are eating. In fact, being more brutally honest than most people often are, even with themselves.

But just as your body adapted to being fed too much too often, or the wrong things, and being overweight, so your body will also adapt to being fed sensibly and healthily, and kept active and exercised, and to being slim.

Amazingly marvellous things, human bodies are.

So just get on board the weight loss bus.

Good luck with your weight loss efforts.

Hi Sweetooth25,

Reading you blogg, really hit a cord with me, I hope my story can help to inpire you.

I was always under weight as a child and have sufferd with depression since the age of 13 years old. At 17 I started working in an office and started to gain weight by the time I reached aged 21 I had gained 5 stone (though sheer bordom). I remember a gym opening up in the high street and I joined, through healthy eating and attending regular classes I slimmed right down and felt fantasic.

Then three years ago aged 50 my Daughter became very ill and spent a long time in hospital many miles away from home. All exercise and healthy eating went out the window, this had a big inpact on my own health by November 2012 I weighed in at over 11 stone and had to buy a pair of size 12 jeans. ( I only bought one pair).

I'm now a full time carer to my 15 year old Daughter. On the 1st of January 2013, I was in a very dark place and feeling very low, this was the point, I new I had to do some-thing about my weight and state of mind, so I went on to the NHS website to check-out my BMI and stumbled across this site.

The bloggs and advise from Doikosp, were a real insperation to me and on the 7th January 2013 I started eating healthy and got the Wii out of my Sons room and started exercising and lost 8lbs. At the end of March I joined our local gym, with my Daughter (but that didn't work for her) I now attend four mornings a week, when my daughter is in bed asleep. I had my 6 week review in May and had lost 2kgs and 18cms of my waist. Two weeks ago I was able to fit back into my size10 jeans.

Tuesday 11th June will be my 12 week review so watch this space, I'm very excited.

Thanks guys, I have started writing down what I eat on a normal week to help my healthy eating kick start a week today! Have started exercising the recommended amount and healthy eating will soon follow, I also suffer from depression and as a result feel even worse about myself. Bonus my mum has decided to join me in weight loss so hopefully will be able to reach my target.

Thanks again
