It's horrible watching anyone suffer and you can double and treble that feeling for a family member and multiply it again ten times when it's a child of your family.
There are many complex reasons why the NHS isn't as good as we seem to remember it to have been in the past. Most of the reasons are political and not entirely the fault of the working NHS, though some of its management really is questionable.
But some of the reason is also that health management is extremely complex nowadays with far more people receiving treatments that just weren't possible back in the day.
Quite a lot could and would be put right if we were willing to pay a lot more for the NHS through our taxes to keep what we have, but at a time when we are all being squeezed for pay, that's politically unacceptable.
Also in question is the Tories' commitment to a NHS at all.
But to keep a little sense of perspective...
I lived for a long time in a country which had no NHS. And paying for treatment means that many people are never seen at all, because they can't afford it. Or, when using the very basic national health services available, it means that even being seen for a doctor's appointment can be challenging.
I once sat for a whole day from 9am until 5pm for an appointment I had booked, only to be told that 'the doctor was going home now, and please to come back tomorrow'.
As a consequence experiences like that have taught me to still appreciate what we have.
If your loved one is really suffering badly, then it's always worth fighting for a more urgent appointment.
But the bottom line is that we can only have what someone, somewhere (and in UK that's us, through our taxes) agree to pay for.

I appreciate that the NSH in a bad way through no fault of their own.But children are the innocent ones in this situation.The car parking fees should be free for all and tax payers money is paying off debts.The strain on the system is more through over development with no more hospitals to cater for this.As for pushing the doctors to sort the problem.well been pushing for months.One thing for adults suffering for months another for young children.They look for protection and care.
The new doctors appointments system is a joke.wait for a call back in five days and you end up being proscribed tablets and if they don't work you end up doing it all over again.It's a cop out for them to actually see you in person and as I've said before us nsh has gone to the dogs.
