Constant "period" cramping.....

Ladies, I'm 7 weeks this week and for the past week i have had constant period like stomach cramps. They come and go in waves, but are very noticiable and uncomfortable. Even when i had period's they weren't this bad or as prolonged. Should i be worried? I know everyone is different so it's like asking "how long is a piece of string....?" , however would be good to hear your thoughts as to whether i should call the doc. Just don't want to waste their time or mine! :)

As long as you are not having symtoms of heavy bleeding i don't think you should worry too much. Every woman deals with pregnancy differently this could just be your body's way of dealing with the rapid change.

If the pain persists just keep an eye on your discharge, but in the mean time try to take it easy as much as you can.

xx

No bleeding us usually a good sign, more than likley to be your uterus stretching, hormonal changes.

If the pain is still there tomorrow I would ask for a scan, my personal experience was at nine weeks I had a couple of hours of cramping in my tummy, then a drop of blood a week later, had a scan and the babies heartbeat had stopped at 7.5 weeks, I had a missed miscarriage

Best to get checked, as you say the pain is worse than you normally experience.

Xx.

Hi,

i am in the same boat. i am 6 weeks and really worried due to previous mc.

i am getting some twinges and cramps but my friend said its totally normal.

if you feel its not normal ring docs or pregnancy helpline for advice.

everybody is different. take care & good luck xx

Thanks, Ladies. I forgot to mention i do have a 10cm cyst on my right ovary too, so it could just be that playing up... Bloody bodies huh!

If it's still there tomorrow i'll go see doc before Bank hol.

SkyBlue - Sorry to hear of your miscarriage. Thats awful. :( xxx

Hey Duppy, hopefully I may be able to shed a little light here.

I too was experiencing the very same & when I had my booking in appointment at 8 weeks, midwife gave me a very good description, I'll try to repeat as she told me! :

Your uterus & the pelvic ligaments only get used during pregnancy, therefore, think about it, if you suddenly use a muscle (ie your uterus) when it's been inactive for so long, you're going to get pain in it. It's the same with the pelvic ligaments stretching to provide a 'sling' for your uterus to sit in so to speak prior to it rising above the pelvic bone & outwards as your pregnancy progresses. Therefore the stretching & pulling sensations of the uterus & ligaments are the same as period pain & so long as you arent' experiencing any bleeding, this would appear to be perfectly normal.

I got the same & to be honest, similar to you, I don't want to really be onto my doctor every 5 mins, however, know your body & react if you do get worried. Like you say, with the cyst, that may be exacerbating the pain.

Hope it's all going ok for you otherwise & congratulations :) x

Thanks Chellybelly! However, I'm sure that's not your real name... ;)

Yeah I pretty much thought that was the case, so I'll stick to my hot water bottle! Actually, another question for you lot, which I may laugh at... I'm doing just that now!

Ok, so much to my annoyance and confusion, were not allowed to go in saunas/jacuzzis etc, surely then I'm allowed to put a hot water bottle on my belly?! Ha!

Hey Chellybelly that is a great response! I am 7 weeks and the period pain has been awful, I thought it was normal but great to know the reason behind it.

Duppy, I knew about the saunas etc, are water bottles ok? I have stayed away from them.

wouldnt advise putting waterbottle directly on ur tum, don't think baby can regulate its temp till later on ..if I remember correctly!!x

Hi, Just noticed you mentioned yo u have a cyst . Think you should have this checked out, I had the same when I was pregnant with my first at 15 Weeks I didnt know I had a cyst until I rang 111 for advice on the cramping pains I was having, they took me in to see doctor and ended up on the ward over night the following day the pain got worse and I was taken into theater to have a look (thought of appendicitis) however in surgery they found I had a cyst on my ovary which had ruptured due to the pregnancy. Don't worry surgery when pregnant is fine no problems keira was born happy and healthy.

Just think if you are in alot of pain although cramps is very normal and everyone is different you need to be aware that cysts can go at any time not just when pregnant so be careful.

I strongly recommend you see a doctor today if you haven't already.

Good luck, sure everything will be fine but better to be safe.

Thanks Jay. It's funny, because as soon as i started this thread, the stomach cramps stopped! Then last night i went to bed at 8pm and woke up at 10am... sooo tired!

Also, had the weirdest dreams about breast feeding! What the bloody hell is happening to me... hahaha

I'm hoping my 12 week scan will reveal the cyst has reduced. Fingers crossed! xx

I'm now 8 weeks, and am still getting little niggles now and again. It started at around 5weeks (just after I missed my period) and has continued on and off throughout. I had exactly the same in my 1st pregnancy, so know its normal, but think it's worse 2nd time round as everything is already a bit stretched! Like everyone said, no bleeding is a very good sign, but if you're really worried, or it gets really painful, phone your local hospital and see if they have an Early pregnancy assessment clinic (EPAC) where they usually scan from 6 weeks :)

Hey glad I could be of help :)

About the hot water bottle, now i'm gonna sound like a big head!! Ok the sauna, jacuzzi, hot water thing is due to the heat thinning the blood down that's getting to baby, through your body, therefore not advised, (I looked this up as I couldn't work out why either!)

Think the thinning of the blood causes no end of problems for growing embryo etc as the correct nutrients aren't getting there. So just go careful with that hot water bottle Duppy.

I think Chellybelly should be my real name, it's not too far off actually! lol xx
