Weight loss

Hi, I have just noticed this morning that I have lost three pound in the last week which has got me really worried as I'm trying my best to eat as much as I can!!! I am currently ten and a half weeks pregnant with twins. Does anyone have any ideas on what I should or could be eating more of? I know three pound doesn't sound like a drastic amount of weight loss but I am concerned that if it continues I could harm my babies xxxx

I can't speak with any authority or medical accuracty on this but quite a lot of people in early pregnancy lose weight. I certainly did. Nothing scary, started off about 8st 11lbs and went down to about 8st 8lbs and I was eating like a horse. There comes a point however when the opposite happens... let's just saw I'm not getting on the scales any time soon, last time I sure did scare myself! Wait till you're 30 weeks, pretty sure you'll be gaining a nice amount of weight for your babies. Always know you can speak to your midwife about any concerns, chances are she'll let you know if anything seems amiss. Good luck and how wonderful to be expecting twins! :) x

Thanks!! I will speak to my midwife and see what she says but I just got a shock when like you said you had been eating loads cos I have been too, including 2am in the morning eating cereal!! My mam said I wil sharp be complaining when things go the other way and I'm the size of a house :) xx

Don't worry, as long as you keep to a healthy and balanced diet, your babies will get all they need. Look what I found on breastfeedingmums.com: "Weight loss, perhaps surprisingly, is something many pregnant women experience throughout the first trimester of pregnancy.

However, considering that most women try to eat more healthily, cut out alcohol and eat less due to a decreased appetite, it is completely normal! Couple that with a bigger bosom than usual and you may be complimented on how wonderful you are looking often by unsuspecting individuals who are unaware of your pregnancy. Make the most of it while you can!

If you fail to gain weight after the first trimester your doctor may want to investigate why this is the case and may run a few routine tests."

I agree with what Newlywed said about eating less but healthier and cutting out alcohol etc. I got to 26 weeks before I reached my pre-pregnancy weight and now I'm putting on a steady 2lbs a week. Don't worry about it, my advice would be to ask loads of questions at check ups, and if something is said that you don't understand ask for an explanation. Enjoy the rest of your pregnancy x

I agree too - I lost 9 pounds in my first trimester have put it all back on and more. For me it was cutting out alcohol and drinking loads of water every day - unless ginger biscuits and Haribo Tangfastics have magical weight loss properties :o)

I'm sure you will balance out soon, and come the third trimester you'll find it hard to remember your body without the bump!

xx
