Painful hip joints especially at night, 14 weeks...?

Hi all,

In the last week, i've started having pain in my joints, especially in my hip, which gets really painful at night and - adding to me getting up at least twice to use the loo - effectively stops me from getting any sleep!

I've read this is normal as the ligaments stretch and prepare your body for labour but I'm really hoping it won't last all the time as i'm only 14 weeks now and don't even have a belly to speak of yet! ;-)

thanks for your advice.

I had this early on, it was mainly painful at night and I had to get up, I still get it if I stand for more than fifteen minutes but mainly my back now! Yes it will come and go :(

I'm 39 weeks tomorrow, and I'm afraid I'm still getting this, have had it non-stop :-( A body-length pillow helps a lot mind, provided you make sure it goes between your knees and your ankles. So, if you're like me and are stuck with it - invest in one of those!

Hi! I had this too from around 13 weeks, it started as slight hip pain but then it developed into quite bad hip pain, back pain and I felt like I'd been kicked by a horse in my pubic bone! I now have PGP, pelvic gurdle pain. When you next see your midwife make sure you tell her as mine referred me for physio and the very next day the hospital rang me to book me in! Make sure you tell her if it gets any worse as mine has started to affect my normal life, struggling with stairs etc. Its not this bad everyday but cold days are worse! Hope this helps! And also you can find out about more common pregnancy niggle on nhs.uk under the pregnancy and birth section! There is lots of helpfull info on there! Good luck and take care! X

Hi I'm 27 weeks and have been struggling with painful hips at night since about 18 weeks. I'm fine during the day while I'm out and about, but when I lie on my side at night I can only last about 2hours max, even with a pregnancy pillow before the hip I'm lying on becomes sore and uncomfortable and I have to flip myself over. It did subside for a couple of weeks but back again now, and I have a very achey groin area...is this also normal or should I be speaking to the midwife? x
