How to prevent stretch marks?

Hi,

I'm 11 weeks pregnant. Didn't have first scan yet but can't wait:)

I'm just wondering if you use any body lotion or oils to prevent stretch marks?

When is the best time to start it? I know that most lotions are recommended from 4 months.

Does it help?

I use bio oil, highly recommended, I have used it every other day for years and through out this pregnancy so far 15.4 weeks.

I started using stretch mark oil since I knew I was pregnant. I have used Bio Oil until I was about 10 weeks, but after a very nasty fit of morning sickness I couldn't stand the (admittedly really subtle) smell of it anymore. Since then (I am 23 weeks now) I use mama mio's Tummy Rub stretch mark oil which is quite expensive, but works really well for me.

Good luck on your first scan!

Bio oil , is said to b good at preventing and helping with the appearance of any scars but I think genetics play a big part in it 2. I didn't get any stretch marks with my 1st pregnancy ( put a lot of weight on ) and although I started off with putting on lotions and potions but by the end the novelty had worn off. I have got them on my hips from a growth spurt as a teenager so thought I would suffer but didn't!

If you ask a professional they will say nothing is proven to help. Some people get them others don't.

jds, that is good to know. I already have stretch marks from teenage growth spurts, too, and am really afraid of gaining new ones during pregnancy. I am glad to read it doesn't necessarily have to happen. Thank you for sharing that information :)

Hi, I used Palmers Cocoa Butter which smells lovely (but I still got stretchmarks), but my midwife always told me, if you are going to get stretch marks there are no creams about that will stop them!! Whether that is true or not I dont know. Good Luck

All my life ive heard people saying "oh she has stretch marks because she didnt use any creams or oils" however now at 38 weeks pregnant and having used both creams for stretch marks and oils from as early as week 6 more than twice a day and at night i know that they will appear even with all the care in the world they may be just one or two but they do appear it is a natural thing from pregnancy. And if you all think about all the changes our bodies go through when we become pregnant we should just be happy and thankful we have a body which was and is able to go through such a beautiful event in a woman's life not everyone is that lucky, so i recomend taking care of yourselves yes with the creams and oils but to never forget how lucky we all are to be going through these changes :)
