Had the FBC blood test at 30 weeks and results have come back to 'retest in two weeks'. Any ideas why?

I firstly thought that the midwife hadn't got enough blood (it was flowing really slowly) but then realised that an immediate repeat would make more sense then. Any ideas why the two weeks wait?

The doctors surgery wouldn't tell me.

Thanks

K

I don't know if this will be the same for you but when I was pregnant I had to keep going back to the docs for blood tests with no explanation. In the end I asked the receptionist why I had to keep having them and she said its because my white blood cell count was high (which it is supposed to be when you're pregnant). I ended up seeing the doc who basically said 'oh it is always a little higher in pregnancy it's nothing to worry about'. As you have 2 people to protect now. So whoever had been recalling me for the tests obviously did not check my medical history!

I'm not sure if that's the reason why but it may be. When you go back ask the nurse or receptionist on duty. Or if you don't want to wait phone and ask for a doctor to call you back. You shouldn't have to give blood if you don't know the reason.

Good luck - I'm sure it's nothing to worry about or you wouldn't be waiting 2 weeks. xx

Thanks. That is reassuring. I might try to phone the doctor as you say. I don't mind have blood samples taken - I just wish they would say why,

Although I suppose if they said my iron levels were low, I'd immediately start eating more iron-rich foods and by the next appointment, the levels would be fine and I'd relax again. Hmm.
