Hi Clarebear1, i

t's normal to feel totally exhausted by a lack of sleep when you have a new baby. If you want to speak to someone about how your feeling and get some support do call NCT's helpline on 0300 330 0700. You can learn more about it here: nct.org.uk/nct-helpline.

All the best,

Alice

Relax its normal to feel more tired than you ever imagined, and I bet you cant see it ever ending either? Well it does and there is no way of making a baby magically sleep but its a case of if you cant beat them join them. Sleep with them then leave them happily awake in a bouncer or pram whilst you do your normal little things around the house, dont take nap times as an opertunity to do house work. Shop online, buy paper plates it you like to save energy else where and before you know it a few months will of passed and your getting larger amounts of sleep. If your chilled out your baby will follow suit too, they are very sensitive x Good luck x

clarebear1 - you're not alone. After your baby, sleep is the next most precious thing in any parent's life!

There is light at the end of the tunnel, honestly! It took my daughter a year to decide to sleep through the night, but now she's the best sleeper of all her little friends. We ended up having her in bed with us when she was little as she just wouldn't settle otherwise and I was too tired and lazy to keep getting up. Do whatever suits you though and things will change. The first few weeks are hard, but just wait for the first smile - that makes everything better!

I know everyones in different situations, but if you have anyone, a friend or a family member who can let you sleep for an hour every day during the day while they have the bubba. This can really help if only for the first 2 months or so.

Babies generally wanna sleep during the day when theres noise or your wide awake (typical) so try and make use of these day time hours while he sleeps to rest, have a nap or a good bath.

The house work is not going any where so make sure you look after yourself first because if your tense and tired baby will be the same and this can create other problems i.e colic etc

Congrats and good luck
