Have the potty with them all the time - get them used to it's presence. Put them on it fairly regularly so that they might "go" even accidentally on it. It really depends on age how much they'll understand what it's all about. I've heard that whatever age you start they will probably be trained by age 3. In my experience there are still accidents, especially at night.

There's a good Little Princess book about potties!

Good luck!

Potty training is a significant milestone for you and your child. If you try and remain relaxed and expect inevitable accidents along the way then it shouldn’t be too daunting. Many parents do try and wait until the summer months to begin as there will be fewer clothes to remove if there is an accident. To begin start using toilet related words around your toddler such as pee/wee, poo/poop (whatever words you use at home) and when you change their nappy try explaining what they’ve done and why. My son wouldn't use the potty, he went straight to using the toilet, helped greatly by the fact that we used toilet duck gel fresh discs in the front of the toilet bowl which he always tried to wee on!

It's a bit mad but it worked for us - good luck x

my son used the toilet rather than the potty and my little trick was to tell him when you pee it will make magic bubbles lol.... id make sure that there was fairy liquid in the toilet.... and he took to it no problem at all. x
