Protein in urine

Hello,

I’m currently 38+6 weeks pregnant and for the past 3 weeks I have tested positive for protein and blood in my urine. My blood pressure is normal, I have no urine infection and my blood tests came back as normal. I really don’t understand what could be causing this. I have read about pre eclampsia that was atypical which means that it didn’t have all the symptoms and it scares me as I wonder if that’s what I have…

Anyone has been through a similar situation?

hi I had this most of the 3rd trimester bjt they weren’t concerned as my blood pressure normal etc. they said it can even be me eating breakfast before the appointment that can make it high but they did send away a few samples for extra testing just in case but if I didn’t hear anything then it was still not pre eclampsia (which I didn’t) all was fine on that from for us and healthy baby normal delivery etc you should defo ask your midwife for some reassurance though if you are worried and why they have ruled it out for you xxx

Thank you so much for your message! It’s so reassuring to hear someone has gone through the exact same thing and everything was fine. So they have found proteins in my urine since 36 weeks and now I’m 39 weeks and it’s still showing at every urine sample. I have had 2 blood tests because the concentration of protein has gone slightly up (390mg to 420mg with 300 being the normal limit). They said that the results all came back normal and my blood pressure is fine too. They don’t seem to have an answer as to why it is happening but they don’t seem too concerned since all they want me to do is have my blood pressure checked twice a week. I guess I’m just being paranoid as it’s not my first pregnancy and it has never happened to me before. I’m glad to hear you had a normal delivery. I’m dreading labour so much lately…

it sounds like they aren’t worried but I can understand why you wanted to hear of others having the same as I hadn’t heard of it either and freaked out when I googled! Best of luck for Labour it won’t be long until little one is in your arms 🤗💜 xx

Thanks so much for your reply. Did you have any symptoms for your kidney stones? Also how did they diagnose you? Was your urine still testing positive for protein after giving birth?

Hi Trinity,

I too had this for weeks in the lead up to delivery of my DD.

I had group Strep B (not related to the protein in urine) but this was found when they were testing if I had a UTI as a result of the protein and blood and they weren’t concerned despite me swelling like a ballon, as my BP was ok.

Unrelated again, but after delivery, about 7 months PP I ended up in hospital with gall stones - they said then that could cause protein in urine. I still have protein in urine now!

Oh wow! Thanks so much for taking the time to reply. I have been referred to see a nephrologist since they ruled out pre eclampsia from my blood test and BP. It will probably take months before I get an appointment but it’s good to know this might be an explanation. How did they diagnose you? With an ultrasound/xray/mri? Did you have any symptom?

Sorry for the delay in replying!

I was diagnosed for gall stones via ultrasound.

Symptoms - yes about 7 month PP I had the worst pain (even worst than my unmedicated labour!) called 111 who sent me to A&E - found out I passing a gall stone!

How you getting on? X
