Nappies
Hey,
First time mum to be, can someone please tell me what size nappies I'm supposed to buy to take with me to hospital. Some people say size 0 some say size 1.
I'm abit confused, how do I work this out for my self long term. So I know I am always buying the right size. Thanks 😊
I’ve always taken size 1, they are adequate for most babies. I’d only take a 0 if I knew my baby was going to be on the small side. You will know when to size up, most nappies now have little markers that indicate when they are getting too snug and you might find they are no longer keeping everything “contained” lol

Most term babies are ok with size 1 although in the first 10 days we had a lot of leaks and really I think he'd have been better in 0s for a week or so (born 3kg/6lb10oz). xx
I'm going in to get Induced tomorrow at 38 weeks because of gestational diabetes so I guess I'll go for 0. Thanks for your help

For both of mine I have just used sizes 1s and that's all I had. They were both 50th percentile babies and they worked fine. One thing I would say is if you get a lot of leaks try a different brand. The different brands are slightly different shapes and some fit some babies better than others. Good luck

I was looking at this too but have little hope I’d have a baby less than 6.6lb 😂 - hope it’s not bigger than 11lb as well! So just plumped for size 1
We bought size 0 and 1 and took both with use. Size 0 were too small from the day he was born, so we only ever used size 1
My little girl was only 5.14lb and size 1 was fine for her, check the weight range on the packs as size 0 on some brands are aimed at prem/tiny babies. Also if you have the Emma's diary app you get a carry pack of pampers with the second voucher which you pick up from Argos or boots (boots never had any in stock). Although I've found Asda little angels nappies to be the best so far.
And don't forget to take a full pack of wipes or lots of cotton wool because meconium is not the easiest to clean!
I took size 0 and size 1. She wore size 0 for a short while as baby was born quite big. So take a mixture but start with size o. I used to go by number and month but u are supposed to go by weight. So I did size 0 = 0-1 months. Size 1 1 -2 months
Hello! The hospital supplied nappies for me but I bad an emergency supply of size 0 as I knew my babies would be small as size 0 runs to 7lbs 🧡

I took a small packet of size 1 the first time and it was still a bit big so had to get my partner to buy size 0.
The second time round I only took a small packet of size 0.
I would suggest you buy the jumbo pack size 1 for the house as they will eventually grow into it and be in size 1 for a bit.
For the hospital you can get the hospital pack (it has like 24 nappies inside) of size 0 that should be more than enough for your duration and a few days after.
If your baby is still fitting comfortably in a size 0 then you can just get one more bigger pack.
As for knowing what size to buy in the future the packs have a weight guide, this is just a guide as a child can be within the weight stated but have a wide waist and need to size up because of their waist or even a long bottom (this happened with my eldest as he was VERY chubby), but your best bet would be to judge by how far apart the straps are from each other (the straps should go over the band line easily), the nappy shouldn’t leave any red marks around the the legs and tummy area and as they get older if they are constantly leaking through then it’s time to size up.
For my first I took some of each, I got a small pack of 0 and a pack on 1s.I figured you could always buy more 0 if they are small and they'll grow into the 1 as they get bigger.
2nd baby I only used cloth nappies, so I took about 12 reusable new born nappies to hospital with me which was plenty and then washed then when we got home.
Thanks thats a good idea, as I'm going in tomorrow to get Induced I wasn't sure what size baby is. So I'll get both sizes like you said.
How exciting, good luck with everything, I had GD too, packing lots of low carb snacks was so hard!! I took lots of coconut water and healthy stuff, and a packet of chocolate hobnobs for afterwards when the diabetes was gone, best post birth biscuits ever 😁

Did you gey Induced ever? Just wondering once they say a bed is available do they say come by a certain time or lose your place?
I was induced both pregnancies , my first baby I had the pessary for 24 hours on the ward, then was taken to a delivery suite, to have waters broken and the induction drip started. If the pessary had started labour I would have gone up to delivery sooner. Second baby I had a bed in the ward, but I wanted a balloon induction instead of the pessary which had to be done on delivery, so just hung about on the ward until a bed was free in delivery. I booked in at 1pm and didn't go to delivery until about 8pm so lots of waiting around.
I don't think you'd miss a slot as such, you just stay on the ward till a bed in delivery is free.
We went for walks and got coffee and left a contact number with the nurses in case a bed became free. Good luck today 🍀
