Polyhydramnios specifics

Hello, lovely lot. I'm new here. 33 weeks with baby number 4.

I know there are a lot of posts about polyhydramnios, but I'm really looking for some specific details about your experiences if that's okay. As lots have said, the internet can be a bit scary and there I was at 4am googling frantically based on my 32 week scan AFI 24cm DP 8cm. I don't have a diagnosis, just mutterings about the need to induce due to "big baby", which, having read the RCOG and NICE guidelines cover to cover, seems an overreaction.

1. Was the OB/midwife forthcoming about the diagnosis, or were you just told "big baby"?

2. Did you retest for GTT as a result and were the results the same or different?

3. Were you advised to induce/c-section?

4. If you laboured vaginally, were there any issues with the placenta - presentation, prolapse or abruption?

5. Long shot - did anyone give birth at home? I have severe fear of hospitals (I don't believe it's a phobia because I feel that, from my experiences, it is appropriate and justified) and three children already - the idea of an extended hospital stay and especially c-section recovery send me into a genuine panic.

Hi, I have polyhydramnios in 2 out of my 3 pregnancies. 35 AFI the first time, 30 AFI the second.

Both times it was identified at a routine 28 week scan. I'm living in America and my ob routinely do the glucose challenge at 28 weeks. I passed the test. They did not redo it.

Both times I got sent for a specialist scan, both times the baby was absolutely fine, no reason for the extra fluid was found.

Followed up both with weekly grow scans and bio physical profiles. My midwife always pushed for induction at 39 weeks. However because the fluid always came down to normal limits by the end I always refused and gave birth without induction at 40±3 and 40+ 2 days respectively.

Presentation was the only real problem. Both were op, which did make pushing them put a bit harder. The middle one took 4 hours but he was 8lbs 12oz and had his hand wedged by his head. Number 3 was 8.lbs 4 0z.

Hi, I had this with my twins, both had too much fluid at 32+5 week scan deepest pools were 8 &9cm, I had to do the finger prick blood tests at home for 1 week, passed this again and did not have GD. Next scan at 34 weeks fluid was back to normal levels. Though I literally went into to labour that day too and they were born at 34+5 5lb6oz & 6lb10oz and didn’t require special care. (Just adding that incase they do want to induce you early) xx
