Any experience of baby hiccuping frequently (daily) in pregnancy?

Hi all,

I recently noticed that my baby has been hiccuping once a day for the past week. On some days, it is twice a day. I am currently 37 weeks.

Anyone had a similar experience and what advice were you given? My midwife is on annual leave and has not responded to my query. I have learned to take what Google says with a pinch of salt.

Thanks in advance

Mine hiccups 4-6 times every day for 10 mins at a time, has done from about 26 weeks (36 weeks today). Both the hospital midwife ultrasonographer and my own midwife say it is completely normal and cute! I scared myself googling but now have 2 professional opinions that it is nothing to worry about. He was hiccuping at my growth scan today while they were trying to take measurements and my last midwife appoitment when she was trying to listen to his heart 🙈 xx

Thanks so much for responding. This is really reassuring 😊

Google really does make you think that it is a sign that something may be wrong!

Congratulations on your pregnancy by the way, you are exactly a week behind me. All the best with the rest of your pregnancy 💕

It's perfectly normal and another sign the baby is well. You'll soon find out that babies hiccup sometimes and it doesn't bother them like adults. My little one can sleep while having hiccups :)

Yup very very normal ☺️ He always did it at night when I was trying to get to sleep 😂 and during meetings at work coincidentally those times are also when he would hiccup when he was born xx

Yep my 6 month old little one hiccuped a lot! Mainly in the 3rd trimester. I too googled and got myself worried. I was reassured by professional too and when he was born he had quite a few hiccups and still does!

This is great to know. I knew hiccups are generally okay but became slightly concerned as the pattern changed and was no longer ad hoc and became frequent.

I know Google can be misleading but turned to it when I realised my midwife was off work. I have learned my lesson 🙈

Thank you for reassuring me xxx

Our little one also did a lot of hiccups in the third trimester - it was the only movement feeling I found so unsettling and really did not like. Always did it on a night as I was trying to sleep. I was told was normal and fine. And he is doing fine now! 🥰 He still gets hiccups, but not that often! 😂 Especially if he has a bit of sick up after eating, so maybe a little reflux, but not bothering him 🥰

Wishing you all the best towards the end of your pregnancy!! Not long to go!! So exciting getting to meet your little one!

Take it easy! 🥰

Thank you so much for your kind words ❤️

I know what you mean about the hiccuping in the middle of the night. Mine does the same! My baby movements have always been most active in the middle of the night so now used to it. I generally take it as a good sign that baby is well. 😊

I am really excited as I have only a few weeks now!

Thanks again 🌹

My now 8 month old hiccuped 4-6 times a day in the 3rd trimester. This then continued through her newborn period, and has settled down now she’s a bit older.

Nice to know that even new hiccups that develop in the 3rd trimester are completely normal and even several hiccup bouts do not matter. Glad her hiccups have settled down.

Thanks for responding xx
