Brown spotting for three days

Hi everyone. I just found out at the weekend that I’m pregnant for the fourth time, all three previous being unsuccessful, all missed miscarriages. I have been spotting brown blood for three days now, only when I wipe and not much at all but it’s really worrying me. Also I had a couple of days of feeling a bit rough but now yesterday and today I feel pretty much fine. I feel like I contact the doctors for absolutely everything at the moment and don’t want to keep pestering. Is brown spotting for 3 days fairly normal or not? I’m only 5 weeks today so maybe the sickness just isn’t kicking in 100% yet? After all my miscarriages being missed I feel like I don’t know what’s right and what’s wrong 😢

Hi, sorry for your previous losses. My last pregnancy was a mmc and I know how horrendous it is to go through that. I wouldn't worry about the sickness its still very early, most people's sickness doesn't kick in til at least the 6th week. Im 7+6 and my sickness only started yesterday and I was really starting to worry that I wouldn't get it. My symptoms really came and went up until 7 weeks. I had a scan at 7 weeks and was worried there would be nothing there as I felt so not pregnant and with my previous pregnancy being a mmc I was so worried about it. But everything was good. My symptoms started to get a bit stronger at 7 weeks. There were so many days before that that I felt totally normal. As for the spotting its usually not anything to worry about unless its red. Spotting is extremely common in early pregnancy. Could you contact your local EPU for advice? I found mine to be very helpful because I rang mine worrying about my symptoms disappearing and although they didn't scan me they reassured me it was normal. Congratulations on your pregnancy and a happy & healthy 9 months to you x

Hi lovely, for me the brown spotting ended up being nothing to worry about. I had it twice the day. The first time was on my test day along with cramps and the second was the day before my 6 week scan but I was 7 weeks at that point. They put it down to some fluid they found hiding behind my uterus which was if no harm to the baby. I did phone EPU But they were not worried at all and put it down to the implanting. Mine lasted for a few days. The first time dark brown and the second was more tan colour. As for the symptoms of sickness I was the same. I had days of feeling rough and not actually sick and sensitive to strong smells and then the next I was fine. I am 13 weeks tomorrow and I would say for the majority of the pregnancy so far I have felt very normal which has been strange. Had a scan on Wednesday and baby was there rollling around! If you are feeling nervous I would give the clinic a call or if things change and there is red blood or heavy cramping. I have everything crossed for you xxx

Hi,

I was the same and I felt like I just spent hours and hours on google reading into all the little positives and then all the negatives too.

Unfortunately for me my pregnancy ended in miscarriage.

I also was feeling rough and then the spotting stopped and I was feeling good, I pushed the doctors to give me an early scan, because I was so worried it was making me so anxious to go for a wee and wipe. Don’t worry about calling them continuously especially if you are concerned it’s better for your health to have your mind put at ease.

Good luck I hope you are ok.

I had brown spotting around about 5 weeks and 10 weeks and both times were nothing to worry about but I know it can be really unsettling especially given what you've been through already. My sickness also didn't kick in until about 8 weeks, try not to compare symptoms I did and I drove myself mad. If it will put your mind at ease speak to the doctor, that's what they're there for! Never feel like you're pestering them. Good luck to you xxx

Hello,

If you are concerned please contact your doctor/EPU you are NOT pestering anyone and are entitled to as much care as you need. I really hope all goes well for you with this pregnancy, are you on blood thinners by any chance? That might be causing the spotting - regardless I would still get checked over.

If you haven’t done so because I know everything is so tricky at the moment with Covid but in the UK after 3 miscarriages you are entitled to further investigations.

Baby making can be a difficult road unfortunately, you are NOT alone many many many woman have walked your same path.

Wishing you the very best of luck xx

Hi

I know it’s hard not to worry but there are positive stories out there. After 4 miscarriages in a row I was in the same position. Spotting and even some bleeding from 5 to 10 weeks and thought I was going to miscarry for a 5th time. Two of mine were missed miscarriages and not picked up until after 10 weeks. This time I paid for a private scan and was reassured all was okay. I’m now 28 weeks and have only really started to relax in the past month and believe that this time will work out and that I will have a bundle of joy in my arms this summer.

Wishing you all the best. Xx

I’m sorry about your previous missed miscarriage. I had one also and never found out till my 12 week scan. After my missed miscarriage I was always offered a early scan, at 6 weeks. Maybe contact your doctor or go to your EPU to have an early scan. They will not be able to see anything until you are 6 weeks though I believe. Spotting is normal, I also had some spotting early in both my little boy and little girls pregnancy and I was terrified. The scans helped. With my daughter I was sent for an early scan but they could not make out a heartbeat as she was too small, I went back a week later and there she was flickering away. She is now 6 months. I think you will always worry, every time I went to the toilet throughout my pregnancies I always used to look for blood. Good luck and I hope everything goes well for you. I would contact your midwife, doctor or EPU unit for advice.

Hi, congratulations on your pregnancy! I recently gave birth but when I was 5 weeks pregnant too I experienced bleeding till I was 12 weeks pregnant which the bleeding then stopped. I was constantly told by my GP that I had lost the baby for weeks. I even went to the hospital to check & they couldn’t find a heartbeat. I then waited till I was 8 weeks & booked a private scan which we finally saw the sac & heart beat. During those three weeks my GP insisted that I had lost the baby. Meanwhile I was experiencing all of the early signs of pregnancy. So I would say pester your GP if you need to, this is your baby & you need to make sure everything is okay for you & the baby. Do not feel bad or ashamed if you contact them multiple times. I would also advice you to book a private scan if you can, I find they are much more helpful than the GP.

I pray that this pregnancy will be successful for you this time around xx
