Pregnant following mc

Hi all, back in August I had a positive pregnancy test which sadly resulted in a miscarriage only a few days later. We planned for this pregnancy so was aware of ovulation dates etc. I was expecting my normal period this month but to my surprise I am pregnant again. It’s also very early days, I’m concerned falling pregnant so soon without having a period in between may cause issues? I’m also at a loss to how I figure my dates out. Does anyone have any advice or been through a similar experience? I would be so grateful for any help and support. Thank you all.

Sorry for sensitive question, but are you sure you miscarried? My sister in law was 4 weeks further along than they thought. Found out at the 12 week scan that she was actually 16 weeks along... She maintains she had a period the month before but clearly she didn't. If you think you're only a couple of weeks since conception you could try the expensive pregnancy test which gives you an estimated conception date. If you're only 2-3 weeks since conception then I don't think this is any different to the weeks after termination where you are more fertile. Your miscarriage would have cleaned out your womb so I can't think why biologically this would be an issue. The best person to ask though is your doctor.

Thank you for replying. I had a bleed that resembled a normal period then had a series of negative pregnancy tests since that bleed. The Early Pregnancy Unit didn't need to see me based on the negative tests. I used Clearblue tests today and last week, I have increased hcg as I'm now showing at 2-3 weeks along (1-2 last week), my gut feeling is that this is a new pregnancy. My GP has advised just to follow normal pregnancy advice for now and to use what would have been the day of my last period to calculate my dates. I have considered the fact that this could be a continuation of the first pregnancy but I am a little bit in limbo with not much more than a test to help quell my concerns for now. Like your sister-in-law I shall have to see what the scan says, it's a tough waiting game. Thank you again for reaching out.

I think it's probably a new pregnancy too as you had those negative tests in between - soooo best of luck, and try to stay calm. What will be will be. x

Hi, I had two months in a row where I tested positive then one week later my period arrived and I then tested negative on the third consecutive month I tested positive again and this time it seems to be sticking currently 9 weeks I had a scan at 8 weeks and so far all seems ok. The dates tally with the first day of bleeding after the most recent miss carriage, so go with that as a way to calculate how far along you are they will be able to tell you for sure when you go for a scan. Good luck!

Thank you very much for your reply! This is all such a mine-field, it's good to know we're all in this together! Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy! x

Congratulations 😊 Maybe choose the date of your first negative test post MC as a rough date to guide you for now? They will be able to date you properly at your 12 week scan.

My friend had a miscarriage at 5 weeks and then fell pregnant straight away before her period. She now has a healthy little boy.

Hi what date was your last period?

My last period was the loss of the pregnancy I had. Which was around 28th August though I usually have my period around 24th. Was strange to be pregnant for such a short time. My GP advised me to use the 24th as my marker. So that is how I’m working it for now, even though my GP said the 4 days won’t make a any real difference to my gestation so I’m just taking every day as it comes and not stressing the small stuff. Looking forward to my scan to see what is what! Thank you for responding to me.

My period was 31/8 I’m 5w so I suspect your around the same. When I had a chemical pregnancy my period came normal cycle length afterwards. Do you not test for ovulation?

I did try testing my ovulation the first month but I found counting my days easier as I’m pretty regular. Going with what my GP advised and the NHS calculator I’m due around the 2nd June! Hoping to get my call from the midwife soon! Congrats on your pregnancy, I hope you’re feeling well! It’s scary following a mc, it’s good to know there is so much support here. Thank you for reaching out :)

I’m really glad to hear that all is well! I bet you feel reassured! I haven’t been offered a scan, I have tried to chase it but the GP said that without a strong history of MC or any pains or bleeding that I will be seen normally at the 12 week scan. I’m trying to be as relaxed as I can be and not worry, though it is so hard! Keep yourself well, I’ll be thinking of you all the way and will hopefully speak again in the future on here to see how you are doing xx
