Labour during pandemic

Does anyone know any updates in relation to partners/ birthing partners allowed during labour? I heard some hospitals are allowing partners to attend 12 and 20 week scans so hoping there’s been changes for when in labour. Im currently 31+5 so really hoping circumstances change before my due date as this is my first baby and would really love my partner and my mum to be there. Thanks in advance guys

I listened to a forum about hospitals in our area yesterday (East London). Still no visitors for scans anywhere here and no change really on partners. They can arrive when in established labour and stay for up to 6 hours after in some cases but not always. Then no more visits. It's a bit rubbish. Sounded to me like they'll be rethinking things monthly.

Hi Mollyg7,

I had my baby last month. I am from Surrey. So at my hospital my partner was not allowed for the scans or checkup. He was allowed when the labour was well established ie dilated to 8cm. He was allowed to stay for 3 hours and then he was allowed only to pick us up from the hospital. Hope things change by the time your due date nears. But don’t worry and stress about it now and get the updates from your hospital during your next check up. Enjoy the rest of your pregnancy .

Hi, I’m from UK and I gave birth in singleton hospital in Swansea. my parter was allowed with me when I was in active labour I was told, we had to have an ambulance from our house though as I was very quick contracting and delivering. My parter came with me and was with me all the time! they checked his temp before coming onto the labour ward, and then he came in, and had a mask On! I hope this will be the same simple steps for you too!!

I gave birth a week ago in London and my husband was allowed to be with me from the start of the induction (2pm) until 8pm at night when visiting hours finished. This was on the pre-natal ward. Then from the moment I was moved to the labour ward he was allowed to stay with me all the time right through until post labour when I was moved the postnatal ward. On that ward the visiting hours are currently the same as prenatal; 8am - 8pm. I know that definitely only one birthing partner was allowed and only one visitor which has to remain constant (so you can’t have your partner one day and your mum the next for example).

I think every trust differs however so worth checking with your hospital.

Good luck with the final weeks of your pregnancy 😊 x
