Sunscreen and babies

Do you put sunscreen on your baby when they are in the shade and even when for short periodsof time? And do you have any recommendations of any sunscreen for babies?

I bought a Nivea one but my baby daughter (8 months) has very delicate skin and gets a bit of acne sometimes when I apply it.

Thanks!

Child’s Farm is supposed to be gentle on a baby’s skin. 😄

I don't use sunscreen if she's in the shade and I dress her in a sun suit which has factor 50 protection and a hat (if I can keep it on her) if we're going to be on the sun for a while.

If I'm not sure there will be shade or she's in the buggy with bits exposed to the sun, I'll put some children's sun cream on her. I use any factor 50 children's stuff, but childs farm is meant to be good for kids with sensitive skin. You have to check for the stars on the back too, so the best for children is factor 50 and 5 UVA stars.

Last year I used child’s farm as my LG was only couple months old, but this year I have been using aldi Mamia baby suncream and we have had no problems with it at all. She’s got sensitive skin and suffers with eczema and we haven’t had any problems with it.

I always put suncream on her if we are going out, even if it’s cloudy (on a sunny day) their skin is so precious always protect it xx

I only use factor 30 on my kids, they react much less to it. 50 can sometimes be too much and block their pores causing irritations. I always use the stuff from aldi too, currently not even a specific kids one and no reactions at all x

Aside of whether or not you should be even using a sunscreen, you should also be aware of of the ingredients in most of the sunscreen brands, it does require some research though! I use 'Green People' it is more expensive than the brands in various supermarkets but i think its well worth it and is very good for sensitive/all skin types.

Hi! Thanks a lot for the recommendation, I think I'm going to give this one a try.

Do you mean that I should not be using sunscreen on my baby at all?

I don't think there is a hard and fast rule, if you feel happier using a sunscreen then theres no harm in using one just be mindful of the ones you buy when it comes to the ingredients. First and formost though its most ideal to keep your baby in the shade for at least the first 6 months, and i'd definitely always have a sun hat at the ready.

Thanks a lot. Yes I use a hat and she was never in the sun until after 6 months. She's close to 9 months now xx

Thanks a lot all for the recommendations. I bought the Green people sunscreen factor 30 and I'll look into sun suits, I had no idea those existed!
