Milk feeds once baby turns 1

Just looking for some advice if possible. My son is turning 1 in a month and is currently on roughly 500ml of follow on milk a day, one being a bottle before bed. Am I supposed to start transitioning to whole cows milk once he turns one? And also, how do I do so? When should he get to a stage where he isn't relying on milk (cows) between his food or before bed?

Sorry for all the questions.... confused first time mother here :)

Thanks x

I just switched to cows milk a few days before 1st bday as we ran out of formula so doesn’t need to be dead on if you need to finish a pack and I literally just switched but I know some people do some formula some milk. My LG is 2 years 4 months and still has a 10oz bottle before bed x

Hi

I think it's up to you when you switch and when you cut down/cut out milk. Milk is a food technically and it's good for them, so as long as they're eating meals too there's no need to stop their bottles if they enjoy them. My daughter is 5 now but when she was smaller I tried her with cows milk at about 13/14 months and she didn't like it so she still had a bottle of formula in the morning and one at night till about 18 months old when I stopped her morning one, she still had a night time bottle till she was about 2 :) She just started to leave more and more milk in the bottle so I knew she didn't need it anymore and she started to have supper like toast before bed instead :)

Hi there. We had switched to milk just before his 1 birthday as we decided to stop breastfeeding all together. He had milk before with his weetabix so it was no problems at all. With time he started self-regulating with the a out of milk he wanted and when, replacing some with food. Now at 19 months he gets a random glass of milk every now and then when he asks for it. He gets plenty of yoghurt cheese and other calcium full foods so the Health adviser said that's fine.

Just give it a go one day? Offer a bottle of milk and see what happens? Let us know!

We tried just before he was 1 and he wouldnt drink it, so we mixed with formula for a few days so 6oz formula 1oz milk for a couple of days then 5oz formula 2oz milk (you get the idea). He is 17 months now and has 7oz in the morning and 7oz at bedtime.

Thank you for your response. Did you stop using a bottle at 12 months too? Would I need to give the milk in a cup or sippy cup with straw maybe? He can drink from a free flowing tommee tippee cup atm but I've not tried a doidy or anything x

No he has a cup with a straw for water but will not drink milk from it. Im in no rush to stop the bottle however, health would say you should stop at 12 months...if your baby is fine drinking milk from a cup then great x
