Baby bump no growth for two weeks

Hello,

I’m currently just past 17 weeks and have developed an unhealthy habit of measuring my bump in the morning and evening.

I had a big spurt at week 15, from 34” in the AM and PM 37. For the last two weeks I’ve always been around 37”, morning and evening.

Guess I’m asking is this normal to not grow anymore and also to be the same size in the morning and evening.

Prior to measuring I always make sure i’ve been to the loo and haven’t eaten right before too. I also have a mark on my stomach and use this to make sure I’m always measuring in the same place.

You really won't have growth that fast that it changes daily, baby is surrounded by water and everyone's bump is slightly different in how it grows depending on your weight, shape etc.

Even when midwives measure your bumps it's rarely that accurate and they nearly always get the weights wrong based on measurements alone.

One of my friends measured small all through her pregnancy and her baby was 10lb,her bump was just very compact and she was tall so her bump wasn't very big. They did my baby was around 7.4lb and I was induced on my due date as I had gestational diabetes and my lo was 6lb1oz and I had extra scans because of the gd and even they weren't that accurate!

There's definitely enough to be stressed out about in the world right now, without you given yourself extra worry, but if your really anxious about your growth definitely speak to your midwife xx

Everyone is very different. I didn’t see much growth until around 24 weeks but my midwife was never concerned. I’m now 35 weeks and pretty big! (measuring 36 weeks which is good).

From my experience, they only really worry about growth in the third trimester - as I guess that’s when baby is supposed to have it’s vital growth spurts.

Definitely speak to your midwife if you’re concerned or feeling anxious about it though.

The midwives don’t start measuring your bump until 28 weeks and even then the size of the bump doesn’t give accurate indications about the size of the baby.

There’s no point in measuring your bump right now.

In my experience my bump looks small in the morning and by the evening when I’ve eaten it sometimes looks huge. I’m now 31 weeks and twice mine has been measured as small by the midwife and then I’ve been sent for urgent scans but at the scan they have been happy with the growth and it is where it should be on the percentile chart. They have told me not to worry about bump size as it’s not always relevant.

There are lots of factors that can mean the bump size is small such as being tall, having strong stomach muscles, first pregnancy vs 2nd pregnancy etc.

Maybe see if you can try to wean yourself off measuring it if it’s causing you to worry. X

I agree with everything everyone else has said but also worth being aware of is that midwives dont measure from a fixed point. They measure from the top of the uterus which moves upwards to fit baby in to the pubic bone. I was never able to work out where the top of my uterus. Just the bump that sticks out the front doesn't really show anything as that changes with baby position and things.
