Chances of another miscarriage?

Hi everyone, I'm 5 weeks in having loads of symptoms like morning sickness (throughout the day on and off) which puts me of almost all foods, vomiting, constipation and bloating, im so tired, night sweats, headaches and belly aches here and there. I am taking my folic acid and also multi vitamins, I'm not drinking or smoking, being really careful at work not lifting anything heavy or pushing nor pulling.

I had a misscarrige about 3 years ago and this is my first pregnancy since then. I can't help but worry this will happen again especially as I found out when I went for my 12 week scan to find out I was actually 5 weeks (when i had misscarried and it was still there) and I can't go through that heartbreak again. Is it possible for me to get an scan earlier then the 12 weeks? Would i be able to get one to put my mind at ease or do I just have to wait. Does anyone know the chances of a full term pregnancy after having misscarried before?

I'm waiting for a letter to be sent with a scan date and to hear of a midwife for my first appointment with them.

Thank you,

Jasmine

I don't think anyone can give you a chance of what the likelihood is about having a miscarriage again, I had a second pregnancy after I had a missed miscarriage and it's so full of worry until that scan.

Have you thought of going for a private scan? I think from about 7 weeks a scan should detect viability and a heartbeat, which might put your mind at ease?

I had an early scan with my second pregnancy as I had some spotting which I was worried about, but I was 11 weeks then and had my 12 week scan booked only a few days later.

Fingers crossed for you that everything works for you this time xx

Thank you for the advise, I'll look at having a private scan. It's so full of worry I'm trying to stay positive and full of hope.

I hope it all worked out for you in the end. You've given me some hope so thank you. Xx

It did work out for me second time round, my little girl is nearly 10 months old now and is a beautiful little mischief maker and sleep stealer, I hope everything is the same for you 🤞❤️

Hey,

Another Jasmine here! I defo would look into a private scan, I got one because I’ve had so many issues (I had an ovary taken out last year) and was told I had a low chance of falling pregnant, really put me at ease to see a little blob with a heartbeat!

It cost me around £80 but in the long run, it’s been worth it, now I’m just waiting for my 12 week scan which seems ages away! 😫

Good luck! xx

Hey there Jasmine 😊 I'm glad you were still able to fall pregnant! I hope it all goes great for you and you have a healthy baby.

I looked into getting a private scan I'm determind to so I can put my mind at ease but because I'd have to get on public transport with this covid going around I'm worried risking getting it especially pregnant so I'm a bit reluctant. Though saying that it'll drive me mad if I don't get an early scan 😄

All the best to you! 🤗xx

Ring your Early Pregency Unit and ask for a scan at 7 weeks. Sometimes you can have them at 6 too. They may say you need to go through your GP. Tell them of your history and why you're so anxious. I had one on NHS at 6+5. They can check for heartbeat that early. If they refuse which they shouldn't go for a private scan.

Thank you so much for the advise I'll try that first before getting a private scan! X

Best of luck hun. If the NHS resist just fight for it. You deserve a scan after all you've been through.

Pregnancy after miscarriages can be hard and full of anxiety. I had 2 miscarriages before having son #1 and then another miscarriage before having son #2. So I can understand your worry. See if your epu can give you a reassurance scan but some won't unless you have had multiple losses but you could pay for a private one. Good luck! There is no reason that this baby won't be your take home little one and they will be in your arms before you know it.

I'm sorry for your heartbreaks you've had to go through. Thank you for reassurance and advise, fingers crossed my epu will give me an early scan. X

If you live in London there is an early pregnancy unit at king's, there might be other similar units in other hospitals in and outside London. The one at King's are currently able to do an earlier scan if you are symptomatic especially when you have had a miscarriage before. I had a miscarriage early Janurary this year and then got pregnant 3 months later. I had spotting and some stabbing aches in my tummy when moving in bed so they considered this a good reason to do an early scan. Outside the COVID 19 outbreak this unit had the practice to offer earlier scans such as at 7 weeks when one had had a miscarriage but because of the outbreak they are only carrying these additional early scans if you have partucular symptoms. They assess you on the phone and from there they can book you on the same day or the next day. If you google early pregnancy unit at king's college hospital you should get their phone numbers so you can call. Usually the symptoms are a good sign that pregnancy is progressing. I also have bad nausea and heartburn which really made me have a dip through not eating much but am helping myself through some medication the GP prescribed and through some diatetic advice that you can get online but ideally through a community diatetic service - GP should refer you but also your midwife can refer you too as they might be linked to a hospital outpatient diatetic service which has more capacity than community services. Take courage and get as much support as possible. Talk through your concerns. Pray to God and do not let fears get you down. Read Psalm 121 and try to notice if in any way this is happening in your life. Hold onto the hope!

Thank you for your advise! I wouldn't be able to travel to London as I'm in the West Midlands but I'm looking at getting a private early scan after I'm payed in 2 weeks. Xx

Just an update, I went for a private scan for reassurance. I was told I'm 7 weeks 5 days and we saw the heartbeat, so I'm extremely happy to say all is going well!

Thank you to those who gave me reassurance and gave me advice!
