10 Month Old Has No Teeth, Gum Care?

My 10 month old son has no sign of teeth yet. He drools quite a lot, touches his ears a lot, wants to chew everything in site but it's been this way for a while! I just wanted to ask a potentially stupid question, seen as he's eating a lot of food now, should he be getting his gums brushed or freshened, or do I only do anything once he gets a tooth?

Thank you
