Flutters stopped- 18+6

Hi, I'm now 18 weeks+6 - last week on wednesday and thursday (so would of been 18+1/18+2)I had two days in a row where I felt prominent flutters for the first time- as in I could tell it was definitely not gas. Since then I have not felt anything and I'm worrying. I don't think there's much point in telling my midwife as they are reducing normal appointments at the moment as it is so I doubt they'll see me, and the booklet they gave me it said to let them know if there was reduced movement after 24 weeks (obviously I am way earlier than that). I am debating going for a private scan (would be my fifth due to me being a huge worrier!) but with the covid situation my partner is really against this. I should be getting a letter about my 20 week scan soon but I'm already so scared about that as no partners are allowed and it would be horrible to get bad news alone. I just wondered if anyone had any experience with this i.e feeling flutters and then them stopping, and if everything was still ok?

Thanks x

Hey Zoe,

I'm 23 weeks and 2 days and I still don't feel something every day! Some people don't feel anything at all until the mid 20's. I have an anterior placenta which means the placenta is at the front of my uterus and so acts as a kind of cushion for baby's movements, it's pretty common.

Please please please try not to worry, it is still very early and amazing that you are already feeling something and as you said you really don't need to start worrying until post 24 weeks, the baby is still pretty little at this stage.

I am also a massive worrier and was devastated when my partner was stopped at the entrance of the hospital, due to coronavirus and I had to have the scan alone, after everything we have been through to get to this point I was just so so scared of receiving bad news, but the sonographers were just brilliant and so understanding. I know in some cases they are letting you FaceTime your partner so they can still be there with you, kind of. Maybe check with your hospital?

I know it's hard and it would be amazing if we could have weekly scans to check on how everything is going but in the current situation it is definitely safer just to keep the appointments with the hospital. I hope you feel the flutters again very soon and wish you all the best for the rest of your pregnancy xx

Thank you so much for your response. At my gender scan they said I had an anterior placenta too, but then said it actually looked more like left lateral. wish you all the best with the rest of your pregnancy too :) xx

Hi, I remember that I started to feel flutters pretty early on during my pregnancy and it was the same, felt them for a few days and then nothing. I also worried and I did go for a private scan (this was last year) and everything was fine and they confirmed it was normal to not feel things for days at that stage.

In fact I never had any consistency in her movements even later on, she used to have very active days and very quiet ones, especially hot days for some reason... I went to triage a couple of times too and all was fine (she's a healthy 6 month old baby now).

I'm obviously not saying don't get it checked out but lack of consistency at 18 weeks is pretty common apparently.

Best wishes x

ah thank you for your reply. If it wasn't for this horrible virus I would be straight away down the private scan clinic but at the moment I'm battling between the fear of everything being ok with baby and the fear of getting ill! x

You won’t feel the baby everyday at 18 weeks. I had them on and off and also sometimes worried. You’ll feel baby more frequently from 21 weeks I imagine, like myself.
