Has anyone experienced increased anxiety with Mirena coil?

Hi all, as the title says really. My emotions are all over the place. One minute ok, then very low and anxiety sky high. Hard to know if this is caused by my treatment being put on hold because of coronavirus or if it's hormonal with coil 🤔

I recently posted about passing some large clumps of grey bloody fleshy tissue (sorry if TMI) and asked my GP about this last week. She sounded a little concerned and started asking a few more questions saying if it continues I will need to go in to be seen. I stupidly failed to ask what this means and could kick myself 🤦🏼‍♂️

Yup! my coil made me so depressed and anxious, felt fine the second I removed it, it ruined my life without sounding too dramatic xx

Thank you for sharing your experience and taking the time to respond. It was advised by gynae but I am having second thoughts. Only had it since January so trying to keep going for at least 6 months but I feel like crap

I’ve been on the coil since October and it’s making me so miserable I went on it to try and control my moods a week before a period now it’s a whole (not joking) three weeks of a month I’m hormonal! Is this normal? I’ve nearly given it three months and it’s no better cx

I'm exactly the same 😔 my main fertility issue is low progesterone so my gynaecologist recommended the mirena, partly for this and also because I had very heavy bleeding. Bleeding is lighter but my moods are terrible. I was told that it can take up to 6 months to settle so i'm trying to keep going but i'm finding it tough. I've been feeling a little off colour too and have developed a low grade fever this weekend. After passing some clumpy tissue i'm worried I may have an infection now 🤔😟

I hope your symptoms settle down. It's no joke when our hormones do crazy things !!

I had the Mirena in for 2 years, was absolutely fine. Then something changed, I was crying at nothing pretty much on a daily basis, every evening felt like there was literally a dark cloud over me. My sister was the one to suggest what it could be, so I went to GP and they were pretty reluctant and actually offered me antidepressants instead! And I said no, take the coil out. I was instantly back to normal again the day after it was removed. They are strange things, and work well until they don’t. That was my final straw, never had hormonal contraception since and that was over 4 years ago.

Thank you for taking the time to respond and im sorry you had a rough time on the coil too. I really feel terrible at the moment. I'm trying not to complain but i've had several issues recently and have no idea if it's coil related or not.... Large clumps of tissue passed, severe mood swings, and i've had a slight temp over the weekend so feeling generally a bit off colour. Hard to know if PND getting worse, coil or something else. Hate bothering GP unnecessarily especially at the moment when the health service is so stretched but i don't want to keep spiraling down. Think i'm looking for a bit of reassurance that speaking to the GP is sensible 🤦🏼‍♂️

When did you have you baby?

Don’t worry GPs are doing most appointments as phone calls at the moment and definitely better to have seen someone in the situation you’re in xx

I had my baby 18 months ago. Never thought i'd still be suffering with PND at this stage 😥 i don't think it's helped that all my treatment including surgery has stopped (totally understandable and wouldn't expect anything different). Hubby and I have always wanted to be able to give our daughter a brother or sister and we always said that once she turned a year we would start trying given my age and fertility issues .... Can't even consider it until surgery has been done so went ahead with coil a advice of gynae and now thinking i may have made a mistake.

Yes mine made me depressed and anxious too. It was awful awful. Couldn't cope with normal life. Requested to have in out after about 3 or 4 months. Took over a year for it to be out of my system sadly. Would never ever go back to one! If it's not working for you I suggested having it removed asap! X

Thank you for the advice and i'm sorry it didn't work for you. I'm booked in for a telephone appointment with my GP this week and your advice has helped my confidence in discussing this with her. Hope you're feeling better now ❤️
