I believe you can have a medical abortion up until about 12 weeks but really the sooner the better. Make sure you have someone with you, I thought I could go it alone when I was young and stupid; it was terrifying and the pain! Just know that it will be very painful, I would even say it was more painful than labour (but then I had gas and air to help).

I'm not trying to put you off, mine was the best decision I ever made and I have never regretted it. If this is the right decision for you then don't let anyone shame you.

Hi. I’m getting an abortion soon and I’m sure it’ll be a medical one. How much did it hurt? I’m so scared. Thanks

I'm not going to lie it was excruciating, I really thought I was dying. That's not even mentioning the emotional pain, which passed once I was able to think straight again and remember why I was doing it. Will you have someone with you?

Yeah I think I’ll have someone with me, that sounds awful. Did you take the pill?

pinkie93 profile image

Yes, well I took two pills and had to go 2 days in a row, I felt completely fine after the first pill. But after the second pill you need to make sure you are not alone! I hope you have support.

Hi, I’m going to an abortion clinic tomorrow, and due to Coronavirus I have to go alone, I’m terrified, I’m only 9weeks +2 so I’ll be taking the pills, should I take sanitary towels or will I be able to make it home??

pinkie93 in reply to DragRaceSuperFan

I'm so sorry, that's horrid. I hope you don't have long to travel, how are you getting there and back?

If someone can drop you off and pick you up at least, that would make things a lot easier, even if they cannot come in with you.

I would wear a sanitary towel just in case, bleeding does vary from person to person. I actually lost very little blood but I know others who bled a lot.

Good luck, I hope it all goes as smoothly as possible! Take care of yourself, Big Hug.xx

I’m going with my boyfriend but we’re travelling by taxi, I feel bad that he’s going to be waiting for so long outside, and that he can’t be with me, and thank you so much xx

Hi I'm truly sorry that you're going through this. I'm sure it's a very difficult decision for you.

Could you contact your doctors surgery or an abortion charity who are more likely to be able to answer your questions?

This forum is the national childbirth Trust and is for woman who are going through pregnancy or having questions surroundings childbirth so posts about abortion can be quite upsetting for anyone going through a miscarriage or fertility issues.

Marie Stopes is a UK charity that provides abortions and information about them. mariestopes.org.uk/?gclid=C...

I hope you find the answers that you need, best of luck.

I was going to say the same for people on here who struggle through infertility last thing they want to be seeing is this post.....😤 Sorry it just got me mad....

This isn't an infertility forum and people are going through all sorts of different situations. As someone who has been in an awful situation and had to have an abortion, then later in a perfect situation and suffered a miscarriage, they were both equally difficult.

Just because we are going through our own struggles doesn't mean we should discourage others from seeking help for their own in a open forum.

This is essentially a childbirth forum, we absolutely should be supporting each other through our journey, but if someone has an unwanted pregnancy asking about how you terminate it on a forum where by people are mainly here for childbirth and pregnancy advice it's rather insensitive.

pinkie93 profile image
pinkie93 in reply to Seb9

I'm sorry and I know this is an unpopular opinion. But a part of pregnancy is unwanted pregnancy, the woman posting this is pregnant and she needs advice about pregnancy.

in reply to pinkie93

So .. she could ask her gp or go on a forum that talks about abortions... Also I did not say this is a 'infertility forum' I said people who are struggling... Its not fair to post something like that when there are people paying thousands to get there baby and then you got someone jumping in and saying how to have an abortion.. now that in my opinion could be asked else where.... Really is insensitive....

Hi Eram, I think those struggling with infertility may be better off staying on the infertility board as you will likely come across these types of posts on this forum from time to time. Women on this site are generally already pregnant or going through childbirth and therefore these questions do arise occasionally. For those not pregnant who come on a pregnancy board, you may find such posts that bit more upsetting...x

Not really, you wouldn't join the NCT if you're not planing on having a child? It's the National Childbirth Trust, the name indicates what it is for. A quick Google for abortion information brings up lots of pertinent information on where and how you can get an abortion workout using a forum like this which is clearly used by lots of pregnant woman experiencing anxiety over their pregnancy worries, issues with their pregnancy and childbirth etc.

I’ve had a manual vacuum aspiration it’s like a d&c but less evasive & your awake I had mine for a mc but it’s the same procedure for abortion it wasn’t painful just uncomfortable for a short while. Medical management you cramp like labour pains until your cervix is open enough to pass the pregnancy.

Will be keeping you and your unborn child in my prayers

We are all women and should be supportive of each other. Not one of you know what her reasoning for having an abortion yet you are turning your back on her or guilt her with “prayers for her unborn baby” (embryo) because you are trying to conceive. She did not come to this site looking for abortion info. The site would not come up if you google abortion. Did any one of you think that there are other mitigating circumstances that brought this woman to this site and for her to reach out to us? Did you ever stop to ask her? Was she trying to conceive and found out something was wrong, or god forbid was she raped? If you are sensitive to her questions do answer.

Kimberly23 it is usually 8 weeks some doctors will go up to 12 weeks. But the longer you wait the harder it will be for you and your doctor. After 12 weeks it is surgical.

Be safe. If you need someone to listen or talk with feel free to reach out. You are not alone.

The NCT don't offer information on abortion, if she contacts them they won't offer medical advice on abortion. They are primarily for pregnancy and birth for the first 1000 days . This is a forum not medical site and the original poster was asking medical advice not opinions. If you don't want negative posts about abortion then you should seek medical advice and not post on a forum full of pregnant woman. Abortion is a very emotive subject and people have polarising views on it, which is why a forum like this is not the best place to post about it

As i have said in my original post that in the UK the charity to contact for advice and support regarding abortion is the Marie Stopes charity. I wish her all the best and hope that Marie Stopes can offer her the help she needs.

Hi I really hope that the guys at Marie Stopes can give you the advice you need, abortion is such an emotive subject, when you post on a forum you're going to get lots of opinions about it. I wish you all the best x

After reading some of these comments I agree. This site should be for women supporting women. If you don't like the post you don't have to comment, I could understand if this was posted on the infertility forum but it wasn't and a unwanted pregnancy is still an aspect of pregnancy. I hope you get the help and support you need. Take care x

I'm all for supporting each other but I guess it's all about the relevancy what and where you are posting.

I hope you get the help you need ❤

Seems abit odd to posting about abortion on NCT it do with childbirth and early childcare. That's what I thought anyway. Its like if I went in a abortion support group page and started posting about the practicalities looking after a newborn e.g breastfeeding or formula feeding. Oh well takes all sorts!
