When to stop taking progestrone?

I am 7+3 today and I'm wondering when I should stop taking progestrone. I'm on a lot of medication. I'm taking -

1) 2 vaginal pessaries daily (morning and night)

2) 2 lubiin daily (morning and night)

3) 1 lentogest (intramuscluar injection every third day)

4) 1 fragmin injection daily (evenings)

5) 4 progynova tablets daily(2 morning and 2 night)

6) folic acid, vit D and iron.

I had to increase my progestrone to get my positive and now I'm wondering when to come off. My clinic advised I should stop at week 9 but I opted for week 12 just to be sure. I'm interested to know what other women did? I'm now keen to stop because 3 injections a day are taking their toll. A friend mentioned that maybe I should taking them until 23 weeks to be on the safe side but I've never heard of progestrone and oestrogen being used that long. My boobshave doubled in size 😔 and I think that's coz of all the progestrone. Any advice please?

Also when you stopped using progestrone did u stop immediately or did u reduce gradually?

Hi Rainbowhope,

I’ve been told to stay on mine until 12 weeks. Like you I’m on pessaries and injections plus progynova as it was a frozen transfer.

The placenta normally takes over the role of these medications by week 12 which is why most clinics get you to stay on them until then. I know it’s inconvenient but for me personally, I wouldn’t want to risk coming off then any earlier.

I’ve just been told to stop at 12 weeks, some clinics wean you off but I was told that’s more for your psychological benefit than anything else.

You’ve had a tough journey to get here and I know you’ve struggled with anxiety so I would say, what’s the harm in staying on them until 12 weeks. At least you know you’re covering all the bases then. You definitely don’t need to stay on them until 23 weeks though!!

Big hugs xx

I was told to take them up until week 12. But I’m only on the pessaries 3 times a day.

Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful x

With my first son I was told to stop at 9wks -fresh ivf and only on prontogest injections.

With second son I was advised to carry on till 12wks -FET and have been on pessaries twice a day+prontogest daily . Xxx

I was advised 12 weeks both fresh and frozen times x

I stopped progesterone at 8 weeks, progynova and prednisolone stopped at 10 weeks after gradually lowering my dosage. This was after FET and I am currently 14 weeks pregnant. I was nervous stopping everything but it was ok x

Hi there,

I stoped taking it at 12 weeks and I reduced over a period of about 10 days. I think with reducing it slowly you are on the safest side.

Good luck 🍀

I stopped my pessaries at 12weeks n just stopped-all was fine, extra folic acid at 16 weeks and iron levels can go up and down so i started taking prescribed iron -2 a day, then 3 then one then none at 28 weeks. The midwifes will continue to check ur iron and advise accordingly. Otherwise I have taken the pregncare vitamins throughout as got everything in there though research suggests only vit d and b maybe is needed throughout and folic acid at the start. Best wishes hun u doing ace! X
