Induction vs Natural

Hi all, I’ve finally seen the consultant. My options are as follows. 1. I go through with the big baby trail which consists of being potentially induced at roughly 38w. 2. Being induced at 39 weeks or roughly near due date. 3. Risking it all and hope baby comes naturally and hoping for no complications due to size. As you can all tell I’m very anxious about this decision 🤦🏽‍♀️. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

How big? I don’t know the background of your story, this is my experience.

My babies were 8lb12 and 9lb5, both were vaginal deliveries. My sister’s second baby was 10lb she birthed at home in a birthing pool. My other sister had two 9lb babies, naturally. We make big babies in our family, no-one told us they were going to be big babies or worried us about the size of them.

Find a doula and have a chat with her, she’ll be able to reassure you and advise you and support your birth choices through birth if you employ her. My sister had a doula at her 10lb baby’s birth and she said it was amazing.

I am in a similar situation as I am predicted to have a big baby. I have GD so this was always going to be a risk as it was in my previous pregnancies.

My first baby was 9lbs 13oz and I had to have a planned c-section 4 days early because they didn't think I would be able to deliver her naturally and I had undetected GD so had no control which I hated and scared me. Then my second baby I was tested in time so I did everything I could to prevent a c-section again but he was predicted at 9.5lbs still but i opted for an induction at 39 weeks and he was only 8lbs and everything went fine.

I am currently 34 weeks pregnant and my baby is predicted currently at 6lbs 7oz so again they're predicting a big baby and I am discussing options with my consultant next week so I will be in a similar situation to you. It's really hard to decide so I know how you feel but you really just need to make the right choice for you and what makes you feel comfortable. Take what ever advice your consultant give you and just remember they class it as safe to give birth from 37 weeks so either option will be safe for you. I hope everything goes well for you and your baby x

I’m currently 37+4, they’ve more or less predicted a big baby since I was 27w. No GD as baby has long femurs and normal abdomen. Doctor predicted 7.5lbs atm so God knows how big when baby’s born. It’s a difficult decision really as this is my first baba, and I’m literally deciding on the unknown. I know I definitely don’t want to have a c-section. Also, having to be induced before my body or baby’s naturally ready to come out puts me off. Although, I’m worried if I don’t then I struggle in labour 😂😂😂😂. It’s so hard to decide isn’t it lol. Thank you for all the advice and experiences though, it definitely helps xx

Hello! Just thought I’d share my experience (similar if not identical) in case it helps. I had growth scans through my pregnancy due to IVF and low Papp-a. My baby measured big all the way through - usually around 95th percentile although his head and abdomen at times were 97-98th. I had two tests for gestational diabetes. Didn’t have it. I’m sure if I did they would’ve pushed for early induction. I discussed induction at 40 weeks with my consultant. He was v keen and I wasn’t. We agreed to see how the baby/placenta looked at the 39 week scan before making a decision. As it was I went into labour naturally at 38+5! There are pros and cons to early induction I think depending on the individual situation. It is really important the consultants communicate these to you. Xx
