Hi I’m after some help/support I was told my daughter is dairy intolerant in November 2020 but I had to fight for anyone to listen to me since I stop breastfeeding her at 6 weeks old. She’s due to turn one in March but since been told this information i feel like I’ve been left alone to deal with it and in the dark. She’s due back to hospital end of March 2020 and I’m feeling nervous about giving her any dairy at all.

Can you speak to whoever it was told you she had the intolerance? They might be able to give you advice. If she's intolerant to dairy, there's so much out there now that's dairy free that they can have, you could give her a really good and varied diet without dairy.

Hi. I don't know much about dairy intolerance. But I hear there are some Facebook groups which are great for support.

Also, I understand there is something called the milk ladder used to desensitize kids

If it helps one of my friends had two kids with the problem, both outgrew it by about 18 months.

Hi, a fellow CMPA mummy here, my little one is 15months and on the milk ladder right now actually. We were lucky and had prescription milk prescribed at 7 weeks (so caught earlier than you) and it really became evident comparing behaviour with a bottle of breast milk vs formula (still took a while to figure things out). I’m on a FB group called ‘Main Group - CMPA support’ which I’ve found very helpful. What milk did little one end up on? They say 6 month reaction free before trying the ladder, I was scared too but we are on week 8 (chocolate) and so far so good and this is a child who needed the amino acid milk Neocate so she’s surpassing all expectations! In addition we have 5 other allergies and she only got to step 2 out of 5 for the soya ladder before Christmas so I didn’t have high hopes at all. Any questions just shout x

Aww thank you for getting in touch means a lot she’s on Aptimal Pepti 2. She tried lots of different ones before this one but she has to have a thickener in it too. She had some of my 3 years daughters full fat milk last week and she had sicky burps bad wind and awful nappies for two day after which someone told me is her reaction to the cows milk so I’m so worried but I know there’s lots of people out there in the same boat. Will definitely look to join that group on Facebook too. Thank you for your support xx

Yep, that’ll be her reaction (my daughter is practically identical, she’s normally a great sleeper and she’ll cry on and off all night with stomach ache, mucus in her nappy and be generally unhappy, when she was younger her reflux used to flare as well) . We used to use thickener too, her silent reflux symptoms stopped luckily once we got on the right milk but we kept the thickener in until 10months old and she could manage the thin milk. I’ve found it really hard to feed her stuff I know might make her unwell but in the long run it’s for the best and it makes life so much easier. At least now she can have almost all bread vs looking for a few loaves out there that are soya free. Same with the milk ladder, it’s opened up more foods. You don’t have to start the ladder as soon as they turn one, if you don’t feel ready then leave it for a few months. If you didn’t get her settled until November then realistically you shouldn’t be trying it before May anyway, plenty of time 😊 x
