I’ve recently found out I’m pregnant, I did a maternity self referral, they rang me and said they will send me a letter with an appointment for a dating scan and for a booking in appointment. What can I expect at my booking in appointment?

I Keep smelling potatoes and burning is this normal?

I also haven’t been physically sick but keep feeling sick,

I need to stop smoking, would love some tips?

And any tips for a Young first time mum would be so great, I don’t even no where to start with anything

Xx

First of all congratulations! On your booking appointment they take some blood and basically take a note of your medical and social history. They normally send you a date for your 12 week scan xx

They should offer you smoking cessation advice at your first appointment if you ask for it but most importantly congratulations!! xx

A good first place to start is the NHS website nhs.uk/conditions/pregnancy...

There's lots of information about your pregnancy journey on there.

If you haven't already start taking folic acid and vitamin D. You don't need any fancy pregnancy vitamins but Asda do a very reasonable pregnancy multi vitamin which has folic acid and vitamin D in it.

Have a read up about smoking during pregnancy and what happens when you smoke to the baby, I can't think of a better reason to give up smoking than being pregnant, but being an ex snooker I know it can be tough. I've not smoked for 6 years now and it's the best thing I've ever done. Good luck x

Thankyou so much, I’m taking folic acid already, ill definitely take a trip to Asda,

I’m trying my best but it’s so hard lol, me and my partner are giving up together so should be easier x

Good idea for you both to give up, it's so hard if one of you keeps smoking. At your booking in appointment your midwife should be able to help too.

Congratulations! Not to be nosey but is your name Brighton fc? If so that's where I'm from!

I would visit the GP regarding the smoking ASAP, just because it's crucial to try and stop in the first trimester.

The booking appointment will be about an hour long and they will go through your medical history, your family medical history and your partners side. It might be best to ask mum dad siblings etc if there's anything to note. They will also take some bloods to run some tests and ask for a urine sample. It's usually done at your home address :)

I wouldn't worry about smelling burning or potatoes, I think we have an amazing sense of smell when we're pregnant! Good luck with everything! X

Hello, yea it’s Brighton lol,

I’ve just joined a gp and they said to ring in a week for an appointment so will speak to them then,

My mum and dad don’t know yet so I best tell them before that appointment lol.

Thankyou so much x
