Hey ladies

14 weeks left in my pregnancy 🤰🏻

I’m so nervous about labour, birth and everything else.

I also had the glucose test on Friday, just wondering if any of you have had this and how you’ve all managed for the rest of pregnancy with gestational diabetes

Just want some advice on what to expect between now and then with midwife and everything.

TIA x

Hi Jessie, I wrote a similar post a few weeks back, I'm totally with you on the nervousness around giving birth!!! It's my first child (at age 39) and I'm petrified!! I'm 28 + 2. I am feeling a bit better about things at the moment but we have pencilled in some hypnobirthing sessions for Feb and these run alongside my antenatal classes so hoping I'm a lot more clued up on things. We underwent IVF, and I've often wondered if that was the reason behind the anxiety. It's just a foreign situation to be in but then I keep thinking that women have done this for millions of years and our bodies are made for it!

It might be an idea to talk to your midwife about a birthing plan, this is also something I need to do!! I keep thinking about natural, and then do a 180 and think I will elect a C section!!!

Either way, the baby has to come out and all I really want is a calm environment and for my baby to be healthy and safe.

I'm here if you need a chat or anything ❤

I had gestational diabetes and it was actually probably good for me. I'd been eating for at least two and it really made me change my diet for the better. I didn't gain any more weight from the day I found out I had it as I stated eating a healthy low carb diet as soon as I was told.

I had extra scans and monitored my blood for times a day. At the end it was hated to control so I took some Metformin which helped.

Although I was worried about having a big baby she was only 6lb 1oz.

Good luck with your test, hope you don't have it, but if you do it's really not too bad xx

I had GD in first pregnancy and although it was a shock (I’m 5ft3 8.5 stone and fit!) it was actually completely manageable. Just had lots of extra growth scans and controlled with diet. Labour was induced on due date and baby was born 7lb 9. All of this was explained to me at each stage and I felt very in control. The induced birth was something I wanted to avoid, but was actually fine. Well, as fine as labour can be! Baby was born with no tears, and passed all the blood tests in hospital first time so we got to go hone after a day or so. I’m currently 4 weeks away from baby 2, this time with no GD. For me, the hardest part was the first few weeks, the baby blues hit massively and I wasn’t prepared. The name makes them sound like nothing, but I found them very difficult. If you experience similar, just know that it does eventually pass, but utilise all help available! Good luck with everything. My boy is 18 months now and his labour and pregnancy are a distant memory - let’s hope number 2 is as good! x
