Hello, my daughter had to have a repeat heel prick test for congenital thyroidism. I’ve been reading about the condition and it’s vital that the baby if she has it, has to start hormone medication within 3 weeks of birth. She will be 2 weeks tomorrow and we won’t get the results to the end of next week ! I’m hoping and praying it will come back fine, but I’m also panicking if she does have it, it won’t be sorted quickly enough and she will have permenant damage. Has anyone else had to repeat test or has a child with congenital hypothyroidism xx thank you

Heel prick test inconclusive CH
Did they say why it was inconclusive? Often that happens because of an insufficient sample, I'm sure if there were any real concerns something would be being done already.
The only person I know who had CH was my nan, she's in her 80's now and very short (4'9") but otherwise completely "normal". Not sure how long it would have taken her to get treatment back in the 1930's though, there wasn't screening so she would have only been treated once symptomatic which was probably after 3 weeks. Sorry this isn't really helpful but everything will more than likely be completely ok so try not to worry. x
my lb had to have it repeated.... they didn't say why his first one come back inconclusive they just said it might have been the way the blood dropped on the sheet.... but his second one came back ok he is now 10 months old .... try not to worry I'm sure everything will be ok.... they have to contact you imidatly if something wrong ... but if you are really worried speak to your mw or hv xx
