Cold remedies

31 weeks and I've come down with a nasty cold and really need some relief. I've been doing all the usual things: warm steamy baths, honey and lemon tea, paracetamol. But I am really struggling! Is there anything else anyone can recommend?

I can totally sympathise - my little boy and I have both been poorly for over a week now with awful colds 🤒

Sounds like you’re already doing all the right things tbh but if your nose is all blocked up you could try a saline nasal spray (I used one called sterimar when I was pregnant) x

Ah I've tried sterimar before I was pregnant for a blocked nose but it never seemed to work, I'll certainly give it another go though, good tip!

I hope you and your little one start to feel better soon, there's nothing worse than being full of cold, I can only imagine it's even harder with a poorly little one to look after as well x

Aw if you do try it again hope it’s more effective for you. There are some horrible bugs around at the moment and it’s rubbish when you’re limited with what you can take isn’t it? Get well soon and good luck with the rest of your pregnancy. Not long to go now! x

Thank you ❤️ I did take one dose of beechams all in one last night, I was just so miserable and desperate to sleep! But now I've got major guilt over that. Hopefully the sterimar will work 🤞🏻x

I had a cold after embryo transfer last winter, I bought a humidifier for £10/15 on amazon and it really helped. I couldn’t use any oils with it but the water alone helps sinuses when central heating can aggravate them in a cold. I put it on over night and it really helped.

Hey, I know this may sound disgusting but when I had my cold I chopped some raw garlic and ate it with a sandwich with lots of butter and salt. Garlic is a natural germ killer! So is onion. Hope you feel better soon xxxx

Not disgusting if it works!! I quite like garlic so I'll be giving this one a go, thank you x

I second if you can stomach a whole raw white onion (putting it in a baguette with some olive oil helps). Also brewing up some ginger and cloves with your honey and lemon adds a bit of extra punch.

Boots Dual Defence safe to use during pregnancy and breastfeeding and can be used with children over 12 months old.

I learnt a really good technique for stuffy sinuses a few years ago and its saved me whenever I've had a horrible cold ever since.

You push your tongue as hard as you can to the roof of your mouth for 5 seconds and then release, then you press between your eyebrows with your hand quite firmly for 5 seconds and release. Then repeat the process until you feel your sinuses drain. It can take a few attempts but it is 100% worth it and will give you almost instant relief of sinus pain and stuffy sinuses.

Good luck, hope you're feeling better soon!

Oh no! Poor you, i also had a cold during pregnancy, hopefully you will fight it off quick. I went to the pharmacy and asked for anything I could have which wasn't a lot, but you are allowed soothers not jackman thou from my memory. You're also allowed Vicks balm. Other than that honey/lemon in hot water and keep taking paracetamol. Hope you feel better soon! X

Urgh. Pregnant and a cold. The worst. You poor thing. I was all about the Olbas oil. Drenched my pillow in the stuff at night and put some in a humidifier thing. I was sniffing it all day long too. Got rather hooked on it actually 😁 Feel better soon xx

I find ginger really helps. Peel and cut up some fresh ginger root, put it in a mug and pour hot water over it to make an infusion. Drink it ideally on its own and, if you can, eat the ginger afterwards. As an added bonus, it can also help settle your stomach. Feel better soon!
