How long do developmental leaps last?

I'm pretty sure my 12 week old has been going through a developmental leap for about 10 days now. He's been really clingy, constantly wanting feeds and cuddles, plus he 's started crying at the same time every night again. He still has some nice time's, but not as much and only when I'm with him. Is this normal? Will it last much longer? Thank you :-)

Some can last a month or more. Have you got the wonder weeks app? That tells you everything like signs of the leaps, how to help them etc x

Wow, I had no idea they could last that long!

I've tried to get the app on my laptop but it wouldn't download, no smartphone, so I'll order the book. Thank you :-)

Yeah unfortunately lol and they get longer as you go along.

I found it really useful and the signs they explain are spot on it’s quite interesting xx

I got the book out from the library. It's massive and pretty full on!! Obvs had zero time to read anything more than about his current leap (5, and a shocker!) But still v interesting. Good luck! xx

Thank you, my little one loves being read to, so I'll probably be reading it out loud in an animated voice haha.

1 month they last, but depending on baby can be less or more. Trust me there are some hard leaps but there is also good leaps. We are leap 6 and we have only had 2 bad ones, she’s sailing through this 1 and it’s such a lovely one to see everything she has learnt and putting them all together x

We've had two bad and one good so far, the second leap was wonderful, he was the most content and happy little boy. This one is absolutely the worst so far though, it probably didn't help that he'd just got over a cold when it started. Do you remember how your little one did with the 3rd leap? Thank you :-) xx

It was either the 3rd or 4th that was a nightmare. If you find out what baby is learning in each leap, you can do this with your baby to help get through the leaps a bit more easily xx

Can anyone explain these leaps to me? My LG is 12 weeks and I’ve never heard of these leaps only growth spurts. How many? Why are they numbered? How many is there? What do they mean? What effect do they gave? How long do they last? xx

It’s all based on a concept called Wonder Weeks which suggests that in addition to physical growth spurts, babies go through regular periods of intense brain development, each of which alters their perception of the world in a different way. So each time they go through one, they learn certain new skills by also have periods of “fussiness” because they’re trying to interpret what they’re learning.

They’re supposed to be fairly predictable based roughly how far baby is past their due date (easy for me as my boy was born on his due date). There’s a book which explains it but I just got the wonder weeks app where you can put baby’s due date in and it gives you a calendar of what leaps they’re due to go through when. It gives tips on how you can support them to learn their new skills.

There are 10 in total.

I found it relatively accurate in the earlier stages (like maybe the first 9 months) although obviously they all develop at slightly different rates.
