Weaning baby

Hi ladies... just wondering how you started weaning your baby. I started today and just gave him some baby rice. My plan was to give him this on the morning and some more at lunch and then back to bottle throughout the day. Was planning to do this for a week and then introduce him to other things. How did you all start? And what foods did you give baby? 😊😊

I start late (6months) he was ready at 4 months. Being a breastfeeding baby he wasn’t willing to try anything. I start with veg first as sweet potato, then a mix of fruits and veg all mashed and mix with milk. Although I start quite late he only proper wean until after 1 year.

Ahh ok... my baby is 6 months next week and they say 6 months is the best time to start so not too late. So it’s bwst to use fruit and veg now as well then... wasn’t to sure but will give that a go too. 😊

Baby rice is a bit pointless, not much nutritional value & a bit bland.

Just go with the flow and do what feels comfortable, follow babies lead. Mashed avocado, sweet potato etc are good. The sooner you can introduce finger foods the better too, they need to learn how to manage textures. Toast, scotch pancakes- anything chunky & soft xx

Thank you lovely 😊

I started at lunch time giving some veg purée I had made and frozen a few weeks before in preparation. I gave about 2 ice cubes of purée to start with and started with one flavour first then started to mix them and gave more as time went on and then added fruit purée as a dessert. I just did one meal for a month and so on. Breakfast we started with porridge x

Ahhh thank you... this was so helpful... did you mix the veg with baby milk? X

I think I did on certain veg because it didn’t blend great but most of them I didn’t. Also another good thing to try is the Ella’s kitchen puffs as they just melt in the mouth but starts the finger foods off easily x

I started at 5.5 months and followed Annabel Karmels weaning book. that advises to give something mid morning for a week or so, then something mid-morning and mid afternoon for a week or so, then something mid morning, mid afternoon and for dinner.

I started with puree, carrott, sweet potato, parsnip. I was told baby rice is not great so i didn't ever use it.

He is now nearly 8 months (next weekend) and has 3 full meals a day, my friends little boy is exactly the same age ( a week older) and he is on the same, another friend is 2 weeks younger but only on 2 meals a day, its a bit of trial and error really.

6 months. Started with veggies to get them used to the flavours. Baby rice has little nutritional value so I’d avoid. Try porridge instead or simple purées

We started 2 weeks ago she won't be 6 months for another 10 days but she seemed ready. When did a test with some baby rice and banana custard and so far it's going really well. I give her about a third to half of a pouch at a time, starting once a day just to see how she copes digesting it (no problems so far) so I upped it to twice a day and we're just about to embark on 3 times. She still had 4 to 5 7oz bottles of milk a day and drinks the lot. I'm giving her a mix of sweet and savoury to work out what she likes before I commit to preparing foods from scratch as I didn't end up with a freezer/ fridge full of things she wouldn't touch. So far all fruity things have been a hit as has choc pudding. She squeals at me for more.
