Sertraline & pregnancy

I’ve been on sertraline for quite some time now and it’s something I think I’ll be on for a long time. My anxiety is stable and things are going well, me and my husband are wanting to try for a baby but I wanted to know if anyone has been on sertraline during pregnancy and if anyone had any side effects or things that would be useful to know as I’m worried about being on sertraline during pregnancy.

Hi, I’m currently 32 weeks pregnant and on sertraline! Only on 50mg Once a day. I was a bit annoyed because I didn’t get informed of the risks during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy if you are on it, I got told this by my consultant once I was 13 weeks! There is a risk it could give the baby a heart problem but that’s in the first 12 weeks, I did my own research and also work in a pharmacy so asked the pharmacists too, it’s the safest antidepressant to be on in pregnancy so if you were on anything else likely hood they would have put you on sertraline anyway. Also with my research I did, it didn’t seem a substantial amount to come off of sertraline all together so instead the consultant was happy for me to stay on low dose and also my anxiety was stable so they didn’t want to risk it slipping!

I’d do your own research too but also ask a doctor or even a pharmacists advice! Xx

Hello. I am 12 weeks pregnant and got switched to Sertraline as soon as we found out I was pregnant at 4.5 weeks. I was on another medication before this and the Dr said that Sertraline was the safest during pregnancy and breastfeeding. I had a few side affects at first due to changing medication but now it is fine.

I asked my Dr about the risks and he said that they were very low. They consider taking women off the medication when pregnant to be a higher risking than taking it as it could affect your mental health as you readjust to not being on medication.

This is my first pregnancy so I am extra anxious about it and not knowing what is normal etc., so for me taking Sertraline was definitely the best option.

I hope this helps.
